Best land battle in AoTC, I'd have to disagree slightly. I give the edge to Hoth in ESB just for the tension the seemingly unstoppable walkers added. Sure, they tripped a few, then when the snowspeeders were all out of commission, there was feeling in your gut watching it that the countdown was on and they HAD to escape.

AoTC was a second seeing the Jedi in their glory, but there wasn't that feeling in your gut that the rebellion might take a huge blow like you felt at Hoth.

Hmm now i know why i had always enjoyed the Hoth battle sequence! Its true that somehow we knew the jedi were going to win in geonosis, even after dooku said "surrender now, or be destroyed". Vader just had to say "that's it. that is the rebel base " and it sent chill waves thru our skins.

Thats because in the PT it had to somehow link into the OT. We knew that the jedi were not going to be killed because then there wouldnt be an episode 3. We knew Obi-Wan and Anakin wouldnt be killed because then there wouldnt be an OT. With the OT we are always wondering what will happen next, we never know what will be around the corner.

Kinda... Except when the rest of the Jedi arrived, it was like the calvary coming to the aid of the few... it relieved the tension and turned it into a colorful light show of bot whipping proportions. Although you did know Anakin and Obi Wan had to survive, the rest of the Jedi appearing was as huge of a momentum shift as Luke's Snowspeeder biting the snow in Hoth was in ESB.

yeah but it wasnt much of a cavalry though...i always imagined thousands of Jedi......take a look.....theres barely any.
The Tusken Slaughter promised much but failed to deliver though its a nice build up to it...shame no full on onscreen carnage and no vader theme BUT id say Anakins grief turning to anger is a great moment as is his confession to Padme afterwards......... Obi and Dokou having their chinwag is a goodie too

We always know the heroes live to see the day. Makes no difference for ESB or AOTC. Fact is, in ESB we knew what the great land battle was about, what was at stake. When the AOYC landbattle took place, the remaining Jedi were already saved, what the rest of the battle was about was unclear... at least about what was at stake excpet for blowing everything up.

I thought Kamino, from a purely visual sense, was great... lucas has his faults, but his visuals are not one of them...

the last, what was it, 25 mins (starting when the jedi appear at the arena), was enjoyable enough... i can watch that section of the movie without getting annoyed at much (except, i'd have rathered mace fight dooku, not yoda).

i dont think any part in the movie has any emotional impact anywhere near that of return of the jedi, but thats just me... erm

one thing aotc did have in bundles was some top class sound... some of the sound effects were awesome (the seismic charges, the republic gunships engines).

The Sound Effects were great in the PT altogether methinks.

But the AOTC battle was the beginning of the Clone Wars, we knew they had to win for there to actually BE a war. And right from when the Clones arrived, the good guys were winning, unlike ESB, where the desperate stand of the Rebels against five, fifty foot, mechanical behemoths that were ripping the place apart made the dire music appropriate. Add in Vader's presence, and the orbiting Imperial fleet spouting a shiny new Executor, and the situation looked pretty bad for the Heros.

That made for a great battle.

Personally I found the Hoth battle kind of boring. I much preferred the space battle in ROTJ and the clone wars .

The visuals are indeed impeccable in the PT, it just lacks a bit of soul.

No. But its there in theory.

It was meant to be a background story.

Which is WHY we need a clone wars movie. Perhaps an adaptation of Travis' novels.

true...

the clone wars was awesome... i dont see why lucas couldnt have had one movie as for that... honestly...

the only thing i could think of is that lucas doesn't like cliffhangars, he prefers his movioes to be relatively contained in its own story... even ESB wasnt a huge cliffhangar...

Cliffhangers are annoying (see, Matrix2/Pirates2)

They can be... but if the clone wars had been a movie, it would have probably had the cliffhangar ending that the cw did... and i wouldnt want him to change cw much if at all...

I feel the story of ROTS should have been stretched out over tow movies, largely against the background of the Clone Wars. Who cares where the clones come from if they're just a background. We never hear why or how the Death Star was built, who cares... it's there... done with it, on with the story.

Agreed. RoTS only show the minimal construction of the Death Star. It would be good to centre the plot on its building, would make a rather interesting development reflecting the rationale for its creation.

EMPEROR: Lord Vader, we have plans for a huge gigantic battlestation that could destroy an entire planet. It would be so huge - people would exclaim "look at the size of that thing!" in terrified voices.

VADER: But my master, it would be a technological terror that would subvert the people's faith in the power of the Force.

EMPEROR: The Sith is now the Force. The Force is Sith. Everyone else do not know of it. We need a tangible weapon that could neutralise the Senate, my friend. I want it dissolved. I never did like it down there. That's why i threw all those senator seats at that green imp Yoda.

Years later.. ( Episode IV )

VADER: My master, you were right. The rebel scums did say "look at the size of that thing!"

EMPEROR: Muaahahhaa. It is as I have forseen...

big grin
