What Makes Halo so Great?
im not contradicting anybody who really likes this game. Im just wondering why it is so popular. I mean, there are plenty of way better games out there. So what made Halo more successful?

Hmm, why indeed? I know I love the game. I loved playing through story mode with my friends over and over. And had even more fun playing the multiplayer system. I guess I like it because everything is so detailed and such. And so extensive. Like how the AI for the random grunts, and marines, and whatever else varied so many different ways. They always had something new to say...
Ahh, well, just my ramblings....

I personally think halo is only ok, it is just because I do not like first person shooters. I own Halo and the sequal but after I beat them both I really felt no need to play it again. Don't get me wrong the best part of the game is X-Box Live but I just got bored of the game after a few matchs.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
It's so very simple, the very basic of all FPS, that's why. UT2004, Doom 3, Farcry, COD, ...they all are much better games, but this one is just so BASIC.

Great FPS for a console. And I wish people would just stop comparing this game to other PC FPS...there really is no point in comparison. Halo is great shooter for a console and if you don't like it go play something else. Move on....
My comparison is based solely on the fact that they brought it to PC, therefore they thought it was good enough to compete - which it was in one way but failed miserably in another.
Well I can think of a couple reasons why it was so popular for the X-box:
1. It was one of the first games to come out for the X-box, plus it was a pretty cool game, so people liked it.
2. It is easy to get into (simple storyline, it is "basic " as stated above)
3. It came out in 2000, and so it probably was one of the better games out there at the time.
I have it for PC, and I do not really play single player over again very much, but multiplayer is always good, and that is another reason people enjoy the game I think.
Do not get me wrong though, there are plenty of games I like better than Halo and Halo 2.
True, Halo bored me too tears. I dont like fighting the same guys over and over in the same looking levels without any surpraises.
There's some kick ass levels, but all the rooms looked the same and the same combination of enemies were always there.
Walk down a corridor with no visible different than the countless corridors you've walked down before. A couple of elites, a bunch of little twerps that sound like children and some Jackels attack you. Rinse and repeat through the whole level, and then add a couple of hunters for good measure in the bigger rooms. Nothing else. There's no scripting, no surpraises or any other differences.
But I do agree that the shooting mechainics are spot on and I loved the grenade button and the health system. But that wont stop me from being bored to death.
