The Daily Mail's reporter was the first to state Pierce Brosnan will not be returning, but the reason behind the scenes was that it was due to his age - a claim denied by both Brosnan and sources close to the production. The reporter has previously been sued for publishing stories known to be untrue. The paper's latest "confirmation" follows a long string of British tabloids backing Craig as 007 #6.
No official word has emerged from the production on the status of Daniel Craig's screentest performance, other than that he was amongst the final 8 to 10 candidates. Director Martin Campbell said earlier that an announcement would be within the next two weeks, and that Bond was set to be 28-30 years old, which was thought by many to rule Craig out of the running.
I know i'm not really known in this section of KMC but i am a bond fan. I have to say this. The Bond Franchise is going straight to HELL. The last james bond was pure trash. It's like they leave the traditions behind and come up with some other trash. Die another day was not a bond movie. the song, the intro, opening sequence, the gadgets, that horrible modanna cameo. and now we have a Blond James bond. What's next? A gay james bond who loves to screw his enemy? If they go with Daniel Craig it won't work. Daniel is a great actor. but james bond is not for him. and if he accepts the role he will have to make a believer out of me. my choice out of all of the names that have been mentioned in the last few years it's dougray scott. He would make a great bond. but other wise it's pure trash
yeah, I know, but I'm still hoping, I mean, we know that Craig was a contender thanks to Barbara, but Goran was one for Campbell and even more: last week there were 4 in the final four (duh) and 4-6 others that were being considered. Enough to hope that they won't take him and seeing that he's too old to play a 28-30 year old, they have to rewrite it I guess, so why not go to the original script which was made for Pierce? At least he is known and will bring money in ...
Ah come on, DAD wasn't good at all, but don't be too harsh...
Why wasn't it a bond movie? Because of the WMD? They had that in GE, MR, ... The song was indeed way too weird for a bond but the intro, that was pure Bond! One of the best apre-title sequences ever: actionpacked, a story in it, wit... I would vote it as one of the best plus now the entire list of who did what (forgot the name) is watchable because in the mean time something happens (bond getting tortured)
The gadgets were indeed over the top with the invisible car, no doubts there but the madonna cameo wasn't that bad, she's in it for 4 seconds or so
btw, they actually already thought of getting a gay james bond but guess that was one of those brainstorm ideas when they were bored
Okay maybe i was a little harsh but but my point was actually that it had so many thiongs out of tradition. Bond is a lot about traditions. and they took out a lot of it. sorry if i was kinda rude
Sony Pictures Entertainment has just announced via Reuters that the official announcement as to who will play James Bond in Casino Royale will be made at a news conference in London this Friday, October 14.
Media reports continue to swill that Daniel Craig will be the man named the new 007, but no official source has yet confirmed. Variety.com reported yesterday that Craig's agents ICM in London couldn't comment until Eon made an announcement, but that they expected that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson would "let the cat out of the bag by the end of the week."
Last week CBn reported that a decision as to who would play Bond would be made this week. Looks like we will at last have our new James Bond on Friday.

It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that Daniel Craig has been cast in the role of the legendary British secret agent, James Bond, in the highly anticipated 007 adventure thriller Casino Royale.
Casino Royale reunites Wilson and Broccoli with Martin Campbell, who directed the 1995 Bond blockbuster GoldenEye. His most recent film, The Legend of Zorro, will be released on October 28, 2005.
Casino Royale will be the 21st James Bond film produced by the franchise holders, EON Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production begins shooting in January and is due for release worldwide on November 17, 2006. It will be filmed in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.
Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote the screenplay based on famed author Ian Fleming's first novel. The script is currently being polished by Academy AwardŽ-nominated writer, Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby).
Born in 1968, Daniel Craig was raised on the Wirral nr. Liverpool. He moved to London to join the National Youth Theatre at the age 17 and continued his training at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Craig has since become regarded as one of Britain's finest actors securing a variety of roles in television, theatre and film.
He is currently filming a thriller alongside Nicole Kidman, The Visiting, and has two films in post-production; Steven Spielberg's Munich and Douglas McGrath's Every Word Is True, co-starring Sandra Bullock and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Recent film credits include Sam Mendes' The Road to Perdition, The Mother, Sylvia, and last year he received much critical acclaim for Matthew Vaughn's Layer Cake as well as Roger Michell's Enduring Love.
Wilson and Broccoli said "It has been a long time ambition for us to film the first book in the series, 'Casino Royale', which defined the complex character of James Bond. We are thrilled Daniel Craig will play the character of 007. Daniel is a superb actor who has all the qualities needed to bring a contemporary edge to the role. 'Casino Royale' will have all the action, suspense and espionage that our audiences have come to expect from us but nevertheless takes the franchise in a new and exciting direction."
"James Bond is a character without peer in motion picture history," said Pascal. "He is a household name recognized in virtually every corner of the globe and because of this renown, the casting of the new 007 takes on a special importance. We believe that in Daniel Craig we have found the ideal 21st century Bond and we couldn't be more privileged to be working with Barbara and Michael, who are tireless champions and guardians of the James Bond legacy."
Director Martin Campbell said, "The thing about James Bond is that each actor who has filled the role has brought his own style and imprint. With Daniel as our new Bond, I am thrilled to be returning to shepherd the new 007 in the new Bond adventure."
Dan Taylor, President of Metro Goldwyn Mayer Inc, said: "All of us here at MGM are delighted that Daniel Craig, an actor of such high-calibre, has been chosen to be the next Bond. We are also very excited to be working closely with Barbara and Michael again and with Columbia Pictures on 'Casino Royale', which we predict to be the biggest, best Bond ever."
yep.. no suprise in the official choice.. i posted an artice about it in the other thread. I dont know how i feel about it. Im too busy being dissapointed in the entire franchise to care as much about the actor.
This guy will need to come from FAR to convince me!
We had to wait a bloody year and a half for this? Not my fave at all and he's too old! They were nagging about finding a guy between 28-30, why pick a 37 year old then??? Just rewrite your script like you had it set for Pierce and get him back then since age clearly isn't an obstacle like they lied about
yep Dan is the new bond, its all over the British papers yesterday.
Good on him, he did resemble a quite "james bond" type of character in the british movie "Layer Cake". But yes a blonde james bond would be a step-up haha.
Discos - still would have voted for Clive
