The problem with CM is that he is only a teen-ager. he's powerful but he's not all that experienced. He has the Wisdom of Solomon, but he's still just a teen-ager.
Yes, Supes is vulnerable to magic. In fact, CM has punched out Supes after soaking his fists in magic. But he had to SOAK his fists in magic to do it. And it took CM catching Supes off guard and two or three punches to do it. (JLA #28-29)
Supes would win. He won't stomp or slaughter him, but he'd win.
Gender: Male Location: Planning to take over the WORLD!
very close match. when supes was possessed by eclipso he DID seem to be getting the better of the fight though. if he can control his lightning (magic) and use it somehow against supes, he has a chance. if it stays purely physical, i think supes has just a bit more in the tank - the dude NEVER quits - EVER, and that might ultimately be the difference. besides, shazam'z nickname is the big red cheese. no one with THAT nickname is gonna take out supes . . .
I think that the magical lightning should be enough for a definitive win for CM, even if he's below Supes in the other categories...but I realize they'll probably never write him that way (barring Kingdom Come, but it was a stand-alone comic, not necessarily DC gospel on the characters).
actually, CM in kingdom come proved he was faster than supes. And on many occasions every test of strength they have ever had they have always been dead even. Invulnerability Supes has a slight advantage, but that will be weakened by CM's magic. The only real advantage Supes has is experience, and the only advantage CM has is speed.
Superman was trying to avoid a fight with CM in Kingdom Come. He was trying to reason with him and talk some sense into him. THen Superman was caught off guard by Shazams lightning. but he still grabbed him by the face and it looked like he was about to rip CM's face off. His invulnerability wouldn't go down after being hit with the lightning because he was hit over and over in Kingdom Come and still survived a nuclear blast. Superman will destroy CM if he was mad enough and was not trying to reason with him.
CM's invulnerability > Superman's (by a decent amount)
(JLA #112):It's the most powerful JLA and JSA members in space against the Qwardian Void Hound (a big assed, super-powerful ship). The heroes are getting bombarded by seismic bolts that are staggering Superman and Powergirl. CM then takes the blast from a tesseract bomb.
From the comic:
"Its' called a tesseract bomb. For a split-second, everything in it's destination radius is instantly folded inside out.(CM's body looks like sausage as he screams in pain) The agony is immesurable"
1 panel down and CM is fine--more or less. "Don't--don't let yourself--hit by one of those any of you--my--invulnerability's magic, but--don't think--anyone else--survive it."
Keep in mind CM is talking to Superman,WW,GL,Faith and Power Girl--some of DC's mightiest Earth heroes. Do they listen? Hell yes they do--they start using asteroids as cover.
CM's speed > Superman's (by a teensy bit)
(Superman/Batman #4): As soon as Superman starts to fight CM, he says "Marvel's powers are based on magic. Toe-to-toe he has the advantage." as soon as he says that Marvel clocks him with a two punch combo--that makes him bleed. They were both going at it, but it was clear CM had a slight speed advantage.
I have no clue about strength, but I'd say they were almost even.
Superman has the edge stamina, powers, and experience wise so he'd win--he's just not as durable as CM.
Solomon's wisdom helps Batson out a LOT--but like people said, he's still a rather inexperienced teen. In time this will change and he'll more than likely be able to beat Supes 6-7/10--but not currently.
It is understood that Superman is vulnerable to magic. Captain Marvel's entire powerset is Magic. He has the speed and powers of gods (Zeus, Mercury). The thing that separates them is maturity. Superman will and has played dirty and has admitted that toe-to-toe (Public Enemies) that he has the advantage.
Everyone goes to consider the all-out aspect of Superman.
Ever consider the all-out aspect of Captain Marvel? What would happen if he simultaneously combined the lightning with the speed? The speed of Mercury and magic lightning combined against Superman along with a vicious split second pummeling in between lightning strikes? CM can produce a strike at the speed of light. Possibly several. If Billy ever learned to utilize the powers like Black Adam, he would be the true solution to the Superman dilemma.
Yeah it would be a big bad fight, the planet would probably be toast, DBZ style. Or it would be over really really horrifyingly fast.
If no other hero intervened, if the two of them both decided to go at it with reckless abandon and throw away all sense of humanity or mercy...
...Everyone loses. Really, I see CM winning in an all out duel to the doom.
Lots of cool fights await New 52 Superman. Orion, Cap, probably a rematch with Helspont and H'el and whatever else lies in wait for this Trinity War event.
