Too powerful? MoD doesn't have any low end showings like being hurt by Sinestro.
Still, this is kind of a tricky one to call.. MoD controlled all kinds of high end cosmics that probably put Galactus to shame, considering his younger self was able to control Big G, yet got flattened by powers he couldn't even imagine..
But MoD is also a human bound to the rules of emotion, so Volthoom should be able to manipulate his emotions, and his history, as well..

Volthoom gets wrecked, Marquis is far too powerful from what I've seen. Maybe some emotion manipulation can work, but honestly, history has taught me that messing with the mind/emotions of high end reality warpers is a lose-lose scenario that ends with you getting even more thoroughly raped.
He could also reality warp MoD raping some alternate versions of the FF, or probably even himself, and just keep doing it while he stocks up on emo power and figures out how to beat him.
That's assuming MoD doesn't just nuke him. But he often liked to toy with his victims before finishing them off..

Thinking about it, Volthooms "emotional spectrum scenario creating" power might give him pretty fair odds, if it works on MoD like it does normal characters..
So, in theory, he could keep pitting MoD against his past self, adding a little spin every time, until he wears himself down. Or, he could make MoD relive his life as his younger self... Maybe even force him as his younger self to tackle him as the MoD.

Well, before the First Lantern achieved full power, he was stuck making temporary reality warps of a characters history. Like making Kyle Rayner into a blue lantern. These weren't illusions, they were actual reality warps, but he didn't have the power to make them permanent.
And through these tricks, he fed on the emotion his scenario's caused.
The basis of these warps, seemed to be events that happened in someones history.. It was almost like he could follow someones line of emotion into their past, and pick events out to play with.

The problem is the gap in power is staggering.
Marquis reality/time manipulation was in a higher scale.
And where Volthoom has a chance at playing with his emotions. Marquis has a an opportunity to pick his mind apart with his telepathy.
Nope. You're confusing Clyde Wyncham's mortal limitations with the Marquis. The Marquis had unquestionably evolved well beyond a human by the time he returned to 616-Earth. His level of cosmic awareness was so acutely vast, that Doom had to use highly advanced magicks over the millennia to literally transform every last molecule of his being in order to escape detection. Not to mention the Marquis' own vast telepathic capabilities, what with the way he toyed around with Doom's mind, despite the tremendous tp-resistant feats that Doom has displayed in the past.
The Guardians aren't mortal, but their fear could be manipulated.
Since Marquis has emotions, and Volthoom controls the emotional spectrum, that means Marquis is vulnerable.

Because a Guardian is totally comparable to the Marquis, right?
Fact is, that the Marquis acquired a level of cosmic awareness unheard of before in comicdom. Fact is, that he has demonstrated monstrous levels of telepathy that can only be ascribed to legit Abstract-level characters.
Using the same no-limits fallcy that you're applying on Volthoom's emo-manip powers, one might as well start claiming that since the Molecule Man manipulates molecules, he can do so to the Marquis as well(since you know, the Marquis is made up of molecules), despite how retarded it would sound.
Volthoom's powers over the emotional spectrum weren't limitless. Sinestrollax proved to be definitively superior to his control over fear when he stripped all fear right out of him. In fact, a Black Lantern ring expelled the rest of his emotional spectrum power afterwards.
