Accused Russian agent Maria Butina, who is suspected of trying to infiltrate the National Rifle Association (NRA) and influence US policy toward Russia, is expected to plead guilty this week following a deal between her lawyers and US prosecutors, according to court filings on Monday.
How Maria Butina, accused Russian spy, worked her way into top US circles
CNN reported on Monday that Butina had already begun to cooperate with prosecutors, citing one source familiar with the matter. US district judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington scheduled a hearing for 12 December.
Re: America: Russia is still not your friend. I give you Maria Butina!
This neglects to mention that she also infiltrated Evangelical Christian circles, as well. She was a regular attendee of the National Prayer Breakfast, and was a regular guest on conservative Christian radio. She slept with married Evangelical leaders, and tried to sell them on the idea of establishing a state church.

Sounds like classic 1950s, 1960s Red Scare reactionism and with actual Red Spy tactics.
Are we really being reactionary when legit Cold War Era spy tactics are being used against the US, though?
I swear, her story reads exactly like what another Red Spy did in the 1960s. Have to go to a meeting but I will dig it up and see if I can find her name.

I'd say no, not unless our country is pulling similar shit in other countries. Which we'd never do I'm sure.

I find it funny that The Thread tried to make it sound like anyone every really thought that Russia WAS our "Friend". No really ever did... except for the American Left that is. The Love that Commie Socialism.

Trump's thrown America under the bus in defense of Putin at least two notable times, in his interview with Bill O'Reilly and then again at Helsinki. Surt's just following the marching orders.
Re: Re: Re: America: Russia is still not your friend. I give you Maria Butina!
How often do you think we spy on Russia or tap the phones of our allies like Germany and other allies. Seems like a game on who gets the one up for the day, week, month or year.
Re: Re: Re: Re: America: Russia is still not your friend. I give you Maria Butina!
At any moment, probably near 100 Russian specific operatives at play with about 10 times that amount in back end administration for these operations.
Is the point of your question intended to diminish the fact of how deeply this Russian spy entrenched herself in the American Right? I do not believe it is diminished at all with the answer to your question. I do not believe this becomes "usual and customary" where this type of behavior should be considered normalized. From either country.
However, I am not so stupid as to not acknowledge that all G20 countries probably do this to each other.
If Obama was in office, the GOP would be using this to come down on his Administration. Just the news wouldn't cover it nearly as much as they do with Trump.

Putin's little helper it seems. Anyhow.
America does a lot of things to other countries which I do not agree with, but that doesn't mean that I'm okay with the same happening back to us because of it. eg I didn't agree with America mass-bombing Iraq, but I also wouldn't be okay with America being bombed because of it.
Using the "we do the same, we deserve it in return" mentality is silly. Using that reasoning an American shouldn’t have a problem with terrorist attacking America due to some of America’s questionable actions overseas, comrades.
