must we label everything? as far as i'm concerned, the ramones, nirvana, sex pistols, dead kennedys, all different sound variations of TSOL, the adolescents, early sonic youth, wesley willis, garbage, flipper, and bjork are all punk rock. you can insist on splitting these up into hardcore, pet rock, grunge, sci-fi pop, new wave, no wave, oi, pop-punk, thrash, ska, reggae, avant-punk, emo, death rock, or anything else but that would be a little pointless...as the fartz said on their debut cd-what's in a name? it's all good music and sticks to a certain set of principles that punk was founded on (yes, bjork and garbage too. anyone who has heard the rectal drip tape knows that garbage started as a virtual tribute to anal c*nt and the mentors).

really fast reggae. Usually have a brass section with trumpets, trombones or saxes. Really upbeat and happy. But it doesnt have to be fast. Its hard to explain.

CC--it's not the stuff they sell at Abercrombie that bothers me, it's the fact that they charge you an arm and a leg for some article of clothing that was made in a sweat shop in Burma... Old Navy yeah it's not so bad I buy stuff there occasionally, but I really don't buy a lot of clothing anyways...
Green Day don't claim to be punk. Granted, I like them, but they're pop-punk or pop-rock and they know it. Avril is a joke of a "punk star", she's a pop artist.
I was reading the school newspaper from my sister's middle school, and some idiot wrote a letter to the editor saying that she wanted to be punk. It was the most retarded thing I've ever seen. She says stuff like "I shop at Hot Topic and I listen to GC and Simple Plan but I really want to be more hardcore..." punk isn't about how much metal you can fit on your face, or how weird your hair is, it's about not giving a shit about what other people think of you...
not quite accurate, reggae actually came as an offshoot of ska. ska is basically a mix of rockabilly and calypso music that originated in english pubs in the early 60's/late 50's

does everything HAVE to be labelled? I'm sure it must feel brilliant to 'belong' somewhere, but that's not what music is for, is it? and just because we all have different tastes, it doesn't mean we have to be dire enemies. take this into account. I am friends with a punk, and a grunge/metaller, and I, if i don't say so myself, are an alternative rock person. and the point is we get on marvellously. This is an example of how stupid labelling is. just because it has a name doesn't mean it's a lifestyle. if anyone gets what I am saying, please say so, because I will feel lik an absolute idiot. Also, I'm sorry this turned out to be a speech.
