Fighters

I think Anakin should fly to different planets in a fighter like Luke did in ESB and RJ

Do you mean different fighters?

No, I know what he means.

In ESB Luke flue from Hoth to Dagobah then to Bespin.
In ROTJ he flew from Tatooine to Dagobah to the fleet.

It would be cool to see Anakin "galavanting" around the gallaxy in his fighter.

Well, we need to see him flying around for sure. Even battle in space, maybe. For me personally, I don't think his pilot activities in TPM should earn him the credit "a great pilot".

No, just an extremely lucky one...

I think to be considered "A great pilot2 he needs to be seen to fly well in battle. Just flying from planet to planet would be alike a "great bus driver!"

In ROTJ Obi-Wan said to Luke, "when I first met your father he was ALREADY a great pilot."
Hmmmm, ok maybe Anakin had rode podracers by the time he first met Obi-Wan but then I don't think Obi-Wan knew this and even so, that doesn't make him a great pilot just because he won a podrace match.
Any thoughts on this?

You know, I was thinking that as I posted my previous reply. But then we know OB1 has a knack of presenting the facts "from a certain point of view."

Heh heh, yeah I guess GL is pretty lucky he put the "from a certain point of view" line in there. It gave him a chance to change a few facts that Obi-Wan had said.

Indeed, it has certainly given him some nice easy backdoors out of plot problems.

Back on the original subject, I hope we see Anakin doing some real kick-ass flying though.

I'm sure he will, but one thing I want to know is, during the final battle of Episode 3 will he be on the Republic or the Empire's side? I'm presuming he'll be on the Empire's side and so he could actually win the battle for them, bringing an end to the Republic.

But Ani might have been able to fly a Skyhopper

Maybe Skyhoppers hadn't even been built then.

And I think OB1 might have been referring to Ani flying the Naboo Fighter and blowing up the control ship. But still, that is not enough for us. That 'already a great pilot' clealry refers to a heroic pilot career which started at an early age. But Anakin somehow was so much connected to piloting that even Luke's uncle didn't hide the fact from him that his father was a pilot. Be it that he said Anakin was a pilot on a space freighter.

Ya know, that last bit you said made me think of something. Do you think that in some point during the next 2 films Anakin will indeed have some sort of a job/mission on a spice freighter and that is what makes Owen say what he does. I know it's unlikely, but I like the idea of a huge robotic-vehicle similar to an AT-AT hovering across a red hot spice-filled world.

Sounds cool. But I doubt something will be used to show off Anakin's piloting skills. A fighter will do just that. But then again, we know so little. It might happen.
I think Owen just made that up because it's just a very boring version of the truth. OB1 has his ways of telling the truth, so does Owen.

At the end of the day they were all trying to protect Luke and influence him in different ways that they thought were best.

Who knows what would have happened if R2 had not been able to run off.

OK, words of less than one syllable.

queeg commented on the different versions of events told to Luke by Owen and Ben. I merely pointed out that each was trying to do what was best for the boy.

Merc, why are you continually gioving attitude like that?

Anyway, back to the topic.

My point about R2 being that if he hadn't ran off from the homestead, Luke may never have met OB1, the message may never have been played and the fate of the galaxy would have been drastically changed.

Yeah but I guess there's just a ton of things like that trigger large events that then lead to even larger events. What if the Rebel Cruiser had escaped the Empire at the beginning. Leia would have had no reason to use R2 to go down to Tatooine and Luke would never have gotten involved in the huge upcoming wars.

Would havbe worked out well for OB1 though, he would have gone on to live out the rest of his life hopefully.

But if Luke hadn't left Tatooine, he would not have destroyed the deathstar and the Empire would probably have gone on to greater and greater things. sad
