I do not see a shorter time limit being helpful, not at this time. I agree with ST; we cannot expect people to pump out sigs every week. It would also dilute the value of it, I think.
I am also conceptually opposed to peer judging. The possible abuses (voting for a friend, making new accounts and voting for yourself... it goes on) are huge. It would be impossible to enforce.
If these contests are going to be official they will have to be judged in the way they are now. There have been peer sig rating threads in the past; just use those if you want to rate each other.

Yes if you were to click on the sig that I have attached you would see that somewhere along the line I have found the same sig somewhere along the line and was going to make it for myself but decided not to Yhea right I have seen alot of sigs but that's a really good one I was just kidding I moddified your sig but it's hard to believe that you made that sig from one creator to another I know the limitatios of my programs and I have some of the best, atleast admit to some of the pics being made already and you modifng some of those.

I've been story boarding ideas for my next sig. I've seen the competition so far. . . pretty good, pretty good. I was a force to be reckoned with in the last contest with my memorable Tired Hiker vs The Bolrog Sig. This time around, I'm pulling all the stops i.e. Microsoft Photodraw. Maybe some blur effects.
