Going back to the beatles inspiration....

Didn't certain artist of the 60's and present time say that the beatles inspire them to create their own particular artworks?

The Beatles didn't have to inspire artists directly by music. That to me counts as influential in the arts.

But music is what we're discussing, so anything else is quite irrelevant.

Most of their influence is as a general cultural icon, not a band. People do need to recognise this.

I'd agree with that. I haven't seen the influence of the Beatles on too many bands musically. From the 60's British I'd say The Who, Cream and the Yardbirds were actually the most influential on musical direction when you consider that early heavy metal is what followed.

Music is an art. They are more than a band and a cultural icons in that sense. They're artists. An artist inspiring art to another artist helps to build and establish Aesthetics.

Right, I established that for myself and from your post. They are artists that inspire other artists, somehow.

This was mostly outside of music, and we're discussing music, not really anything else.

So again, how is your initial statement about inspiring visual art, relevant, in a musical discussion?

Certain modern painters listen to music when they stroke their brushes on a canvas. Aesthetics is in full play in such cases.

That is still irrelevant to The Beatles' musical influence on music, which isn't as great, which was being previously discussed.

They weren't as influential to music as they were other things.

Take into account that musicians also get influence by other forms of art. So in terms of Music been art...it all holds in the same net. Artist influence is a broad definition in aesthetics.

Yes, you keep repeating that, and I keep repeating this;

"They weren't as influential to music as they were other things.".

People give them too much credit in that specific area.

Why do hardcore Beatles fans like to make them bigger than they really are? Why can't they just be a talented band that made some good music?

Points, Pez.

Points. They need to earn the points if they're young, or stay in denial if they're old codgers.

Yeah because it's impossible for younger generations to outdo the ones that came before. Damn Old people....*Shakes Head*

And as for the Younger ones.....Well at least they try to like music better than A Simple Plan or whatever the hell is popular today. Although it's probally for all the wrong reasons like you stated. Points...

Personally I don't find that younger generations have outdone the ones that came before. But I guess that depends on the area of music. I prefer classic rock to most modern rock. Deep Purple is my favourite rock band and while new bands like Muse and what Jeff Buckley were doing are refreshing and good I still prefer bands like Cream and Deep Purple. In metal I find older thrash better than the newer stuff. However, I Symphony X's newest album is one of my favourite power metal albums of all time and Dream Theater is still making some of the best progressive music out there... It's always just going to be personal preference.

I actually just meant people act like because a band or group etc. is older that they are automatically better than a newer band, group, etc.. I personally think that is a dumb way of thinking.

It's a problem with people who, as Pez said, automatically equate antiquity with quality.

Have you ever seen one of those Time Life music CD commercials? The amount of truly forgettable shit on those just proves that such sweeping statements can't and shouldn't be made.

Really. I've rarely seen you establish your own point. You post one word per thread and make threads to post a love heart or something.

What's the point?

I get it.

You're not really a fan of the band, just trying to gain points.
