Rather pointless argument that, since games can be about anything, including superheroes. Of course, there are games that are so much more realistic than superheroes.
So just because there have been unrealistic ones in the past means we should excuse all following without thought? Yup, that makes sense.
...Oh wait. No, it doesn't.

Oh, she'd be able to move around a whole lot faster with what she wears. Also, female ninjas hardly existed if I'm not mistaken. How do we know what they would dress like? Regardless, the game developers know that making her wear what she does is the smart thing to do.
Are you telling us you don't want her to wear what she wears?

Actually, no, tight clothing restricts your movement far more than loose clothing does. That's why, if you do martial arts, you generally train in a loose gi - you have much more freedom of movement that way. Tight clothing is also much more uncomfortable.
And General Kaliero's comment about her not resembling a female ninja and appearing more American than Japanese is more about the fact that Taki simply does not appear to be Japanese. Her body proportions are all wrong and she's far too tall. A Japanese woman that resembled her would be very uncommon.
In Soul Calibur's case, Namco prides itself on the collection of cultures and races that make up the game's ranks. But what's the point if those characters are not true to said cultures and races? Taki is the only one to be set apart in that particular way, which leads me to the opinion her design is pure and simple fanservice.
Yes, actually, I am. I don't particularly like Ivy's attire, either. There are better and worthier ways to make a woman visually interesting than just sticking them in a skintight suit.
Though I realize my particular mindset is likely the exact opposite of that this thread was intended to interest.

That's funny, you have characters like Maxi dressing like Elvis Presley and claims to be from the RyuKyu islands. Yet, Taki is the one that sticks out.
First of all, the comfortablility and the tightness of her uniform is not specified, and once again, not all video games are made to be entirely realistic. That's another reason why that doesn't matter. You can argue and b*tch about that however long you want as well. No one really gives a damn.
Just about no one cares whether or not Taki looks like a typical Japanese women in ancient Japan. She's hot, looks Asian, and knows how to kick ass. That's pretty much all that matters about her.

Wearing lose clothes in Martial Arts is a hazard. Similar to downing long or hair of any kind it can be used against you. Your safer wearing skin tight outfit than wearing something loose. Which is why MMA's wear nothing but undies when they fight.
Kunoichi's did not even have the same duties as male ninja's, this is my point. A female kunoichi would mainly down a kimono.
Exactly, and again if this was about male characters you would not hear a peep.
So Maxi's build and proportions are not correct for a Japanese man?
Being a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, I believe I'm qualified to know what one wears while practicing martial arts. And my TKD uniform says loose is the way to go. Straight sleeves and legs, loose enough so that no matter the position the cloth won't catch on your elbows or knees, and stop your movement in an awkward and often painful way.
Because a kimono is extremely easy to sneak around in, right. All that dragging cloth isn't a detriment to stealth at all.
So then you agree she's pure fanservice, or what?

Who's talking about his built?
Your the one that brought up the claim about how a character is supposed to look their respective nationality in the world of Soul Calibur. Does he look like he's from said era or from RyuKyu or from this timeline?
That really was funny, I have tears rolling down my eye's. Tae Kwan Do is at best a sport nothing more. As an MA it falls miserably, what kinda fighting style teaches you to use mostly kicks?
Name me a successful Tae Kwan Do practionar in the world of MMA?
BS, a Kimoni is impossible to move around in.
Who is than, an ancient orient master?

With the case of taki.. I've found her alternate outfit more realistic...(the black n white one) even though she dont wear any freakin pants XD
you can also consider her first outfit as stretchy lycra material that moves as much as she needs, but causes a distraction to her enemies.. though it is indeed a bit too modern for someone supposedly from the feudal japan era
but hey.. its creative freedom.. we may as well start complaining that we have to fight a living fire that knows every single weapon art in the world.. /shrug
I'm pretty sure ashtar means that their job was to not look like a killer.. but instead perform sexual acts (depending if their target was a dude or not) and then either kill them or whatever their mission objective states
