I have nevel read that novel so I can't be sure.

Re: Where did you get the name from?

Yes it is, RatCat. But it's called "Splinter of the Mind's Eye." Sorry to correct you.

I have read it, a long time ago though. I still have it somewhere...

I've not read it, but I've heard that Vader loses his right arm during the novel and has it replaced with the artificial one that Luke chops off in ROTJ. Is that right?

Re: Where did you get the name from?

Well, yes... in a sense. I don't believe Lucas uses EU as a basis for his films so much and Splinter was written before ROTJ came out. So the fact that Vader gets his arm cut off by Luke in this novel is not necessarily the canon cause of his artificial right arm. Episode 3 will surrender the answer. If Vader looses his arm there, then officially Luke has cut off and artificial arm, which then becomes a habit.

I agree. I'm guessing he will loose many limbs when they are burnt off when he falls into the lava. That scene could be pretty scary couldn't it? I wonder if we'll have the first PG-rated Star Wars movie.

Re: Where did you get the name from?

I doubt it'll be PG-rated. And it's still only a rumour that he will indeed fall into lava. I still wonder where that came from. And how could anyone survive falling into lava.
Ah well, we'll find out in about four years I guess.

queeg, no need to appologies. As soon as I read you post I remembered it.

The Lava thing, I thought bthat actually came from Lucas himself in an interview made between ANH and ESB but I may be mistaken (again smile )

Re: Where did you get the name from?

Yes, it is such a major thing now that Lucas would be very daring if he were to change it. Perhaps its not lava, but just hot ash or something. Perhaps the reason he looses so many limbs is because as he tumbles into the volcano or pit or whatever it is he is caught on a lot of rocks and injured very badly, meaning he would have to have amputation, although perhaps that sounds a little far-fetched. But then, a lot of Star Wars is far-fetched. And do many fans care? I don't.

Well, I know Lucas said it a long time ago. But then again, Lucas has been known to change his mind...from time to time...
We'll see...

Re: Where did you get the name from?

But did he change his mind on things as important as this? ALL sources say that Anakin was injured as he fell into lava during a battle with Obi-Wan and although that doesn't nesecarily make them cannon, I still don't think GL would dare to change it. I guess it would make a good surprise for the fans, but still, he did say in an interview that he wants to direct Episode 3 mainly because of his interests in filming the lava fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan.
Like you said, he COULD change his mind. But is there a need for it?

Re: Where did you get the name from?

Well, there is always the question of how one could survive falling into lava? The Force is strong, but not that strong? It would make a great scenery for a climactic light sabre battle, though.

He doesn't have to be totally submerged, if he kinda slid sideways down he could loose limbs on one side of his body without being killed.

Also, as DD and other have said, GL would have to be brave to change that part of the story even if it's not cannon yet, he needs to make it so because it's been engraioned into SW history by the fans for too long.

Re: Where did you get the name from?

So why would OB1 leave him then if he doesn't actually fall in? Wouldn't he try to save him? Or kill him to make sure? OB1 must believe somehow Anakin is dead and then find out he's alive and "well" with good old Palpy.

Re: Where did you get the name from?

I'm pretty sure Obi-Wan would do his best to save Anakin from the lava. I don't think it will be Obi-Wan's intention to kill Anakin, it will actually be vice-versa and Obi-Wan just has to defend himself. However, during the course of the battle he accidently knocks Anakin into the pit while making a large strike with his sabre and then tries to help him out. And then, I presume, Palpatine will arrive rather quickly and stormtroopers would get Anakin out, Obi-Wan escaping somehow.

I don't like that idea, though I have heard it several times from different people.

The idea of Palpatine "swooping" in just makes it all too convienient.

Ok, I see what you mean. But how else would it happen? I can't imagine Palpatine just standing there waiting for something to happen.

Re: Where did you get the name from?

I don't really know. Maybe Anakin survives somehow and manages to drag himself to safety in order to contact Palpy. I know it's a bit weird, but that's what you get with that lava-story.

I'd prefer that. Or have Anakin and Palpy battle Obi Wan together.

That'd be cool. Maybe OB1 goes on to battle Palpy, as Anakin gets only close to mortally wounded.

Re: Where did you get the name from?

Yeah I guess it would make kind of a similar scene to the one at the end of ROTJ with Vader, Luke and Palpatine. It would be Anakin's major point of turning to the Dark Side and beginning his hate for Obi-Wan.
