I haven't seen it, but at first I thought that I wanted to see it, but when I saw the advertisements on TV it seemed a little freaky. In the movie theater it was great though... I'll probably just rent it when it comes out on video.
This movie is being slamed by the critics: Kutcher Clams Up
Actor Ashton Kutcher is so upset by poor reviews of his new movie The Butterfly Effect, he has reportedly canceled all interviews to promote it. The film and its star were panned after being screened at the Sundance Festival recently - Variety magazine said it "grows more ridiculous by the quarter-hour" and The Boston Globe said it was "hooted off the screen at Sundance". And Ashton, who was reportedly axed from a new movie by director Cameron Crowe because of poor acting, isn't happy. A source tells gossip site The Scoop, "He's feeling pretty beat up right now. He doesn't want to talk to a lot of reporters and he's canceling interviews - doing some that are guaranteed to be friendly, but steering pretty clear of anyone who he thinks is going to take another swipe at him." A spokeswoman for movie distributors New Line confirmed to The Scoop some interviews were canceled, but insists it has nothing to do with the film's reception: "We've cut down because he's doing so much we didn't have time to do everything," she says, adding "we're thrilled with him and the film's reception."
I havent seen it either. The story looks interesting but picking Kutcher to play this part was IMO a big mistake!
WHile i havent seen the movie yet i agree that casting Ashton was a mistake since all his previous role are pretty much as an airhead or funny guy and he aint no Tom Hanks which can pull many different characters, he should just stick to Punk'd and That 70's Show!

The movie was awesome (except for a few parts that didn't make sense).

One of the best movies of this year(thats not sayin much, its only January) but I was pleasantly surprised with Kutcher's acting. The story was great with a few mistakes, but what movie doesn't have a mistake?Even FOTR had a mistake and its in almost everyones top ten movies of all time
I used to think that Ashton Kutcher was stupid or airheaded because of the roles he plays on TV and in the movies but after reading his bio, that image that I have of him has changed. He's anything but stupid. Ashton Kutcher has a degree in Biochemical Engineering and that's not an easy degree and field!

The Butterfly Effect is like...my 2nd favorite movie. Its hard to explain how much i enjoyed it. Giving bad reviews to this movie is a bad mistake. This movie deserves awards.
This movie looks really stupid, and on top of that it has a really terrible name. There is a really funny quote that sounds so stupid coming out of ashton kutchers mouth though...
"everytime I go back in time things get messed up more" (it's something to that extent, those are the exact words however)
Wow really? How about you stop going back in time idiot.
Do you have any clue who Verbal Kint is, or what the "Chaos Theory" may be?
The title makes perfect sense, look it up sometime. Don't let an odd title steer you away from a great and seemingly underrated and extremely prejudged movie.
Yes, the title was explained to me a few months ago by someone trying to defend it. I simply don't care about it's meaning, it sounds stupid as hell, both the title and the plot.
