Alot of people are saying "It is not true that they died out.It was said that after the war for the ring and after galadriel and frodo and others went to valinor celeborn and cirdan stayed and fought against the orcs and dark elves.that is the last thing that we know of them before the middle earth was destroyed. "

^^the dark elves went into hiding for a while then when aamar halem showed up...they decide to reveal themselves and regroup....and so they formed the new band 'The Backstreet Elves''
soon after their fame deminished and the fangirls died...^^
Ok there are three parts of it; the last one is a shortened version of Galadriel's words in the books; no idea what the text from the comic thing is.
The first text is Sindarin, the other two Quenya; Im not always sure about the accents ^^
Mithrandir, Mithrandir, a randir vithren,
ú-reniathach i Amar galen
i-reniad lín ne môr nuithannen.
In gwidh ristennin, i fae narchannen
I-lach Anor ed ardhon gwannen
Calad veleg ethuiannen
(means something like
Mithrandir, Mithrandir, o pilgrim grey
No more will you wander the green earth
Your journey ended in darkness.
The bonds cut, the spirit broken
the flame of Anor/the Sun hast left the world
A great light has gone out
A Olórin i yáresse
Mentaner i Númeherui
Tírien i rómenóri,
Maiaron i oiosaila
Manan elye etevanne
Nórie i malanelye?
-- O Olórin who once was
sent by the lords of the west
to guard the lands of the east
why did you leave
the land which you loved?
ilfirin nairelma, nauva i nauva
ilfirin nairelma ar ullume nucuvalme
nauva i nauva, melme nóren sína nairelma
-- Undying is our regret; what should be shall be
undying is our regret and yet we will all cast away
what should be shall be; love for this land is our regret
[Galadriel: "That what should be shall be. The love of the Elves for their land and their works is deeper than the deeps of the Sea, and their regret is undying and cannot ever wholly be assuaged. Yet they will cast all away rather than submit to Sauron: for they know him now. For the fate of Lothlorien you are not answerable, but only for the doing of your own task. Yet I could wish, were it of any avail, that the One Ring had never been wrought, or had remained for ever lost."]
And for the Dark Elves - well, the Nandor live in Mirkwood, Lórien, probably somewhere near Gondor (at least until the Dark Years) and Rivendell... but about the real Avari - don't really know. It is said that some moved to the far south, some were lost in the dark woods and became something like Kaukareldar, but most of them joined the Nandor near Mirkwood or even moved farther westwards later.
Will re-read a little for details

In the opening scene of TTT, Gandalf and the Balrog are falling through the abyss, and then go through a lake. My question is how did they end up on a mountain which seems to be above Moria? Can you explain this for me?
In addition, could you explain the layout of Moria and the three mountains?

The old dwarf legends tell of the Endless Stair, a stair of thousands of steps, which lead from the bottommost dungeon of Moria up to the top of Zirakzigil (Celebdil/Silvertine, the mountain next to Fanuidhol and Caradhras) without a break; they were built by Durin's dwarves in the early First Age after Durin had awoken in Khazad-dûm. These stairs seem to have been the only way up to Durin's Tower (which was half a legend itself ^^) and (like the tower) were destroyed in the fight between Gandalf and the Valarauko.

Ummmm Moria... hm... the three mountains... ok, Celebdil, Caradhras and Fanuidhol were the three best-known mountains of the Hithaeglir... the pass of Caradhras was between the peak of Zirakzigil on the one side and first Caradhras (the hightest, with Mithril mines) and then Fanuidhol on the other side (in the North)... most of Moria was built under Zirakzigil/Silvertine (and under Caradhras) which as the name says had loads of Silver mines
Moria was built in the beginning of the First Age when Durin discovered the many gems and jewels in the caves next to Mirrormere/Dimrill Dale; on the other side of the mountains, in Eregion, the elves also had their fortress Ost-in-Edhil where the Rings of Power were made. Here were also the great Western Gate next to the river Sirannon (the Vale in front of the gate had been flooded with its waters, hence the lake)
Moria was about 40 miles from the Eastern to the Western Gate, but as there were so many labyrinthic ways it took ages to reach the other end. After about 20 miles or a little more from the western end you reach the well where Pippin caught the orcs' attention, somewhere here in the middle of Moria there must also be the bottom of the Endless Stair; after another 20 miles there's the "21st hall" and the archive chamber of Mazarbul, Durin's tomb... from there (throught the eastern door) it's about one mile to the "second hall / first ?deep" and the abyss next to Durin's Bridge from where the ways led Gandalf and the Valarauko "back" (ie. westwards) to the bottom of the Endless Stair.
From Durin's Bridge on the 7th level it's only a short way (0.25 miles?) to the Eastern Entrance, the Great Gates, Dimrill Dale / Azanulbizar and Mirrormere (which lies between Fanuidhol and Celebdil) from where the Celebdil leads to Lórien.

Yep it got re-inhabited [though some encyclopaedias say it wasnt], Durin VII son of Thorin III became Lord of Moria some time after the War of the Ring and stayed there until he died and his whole line with him - he was the last Durin as predicted in some dwarvish legend I think ... Seven Durins were Lord of Moria.

i think that we need to clear up this :are we talking about the truly dark elves that passed on to the side of morgoth or we are talking about the elves that never saw the light of the two trees?

About the true dark elves which ARE the ones that never saw the light of the trees;
Those that passed to the side of Morgoth (none did that voluntary!) are rather like the Kaukareldar (falsefairies)... Unlike other fantasy sagas, the LoTR dark elves were absolutely not evil, they just didnt see the light.

I was just wondering what questions I should ask you...
Are you just an expert on the Lord of the Rings, or do you have connections?
