Not to sound cynical, but by "insignificant section," is there a chance that you mean "section that I, Dexx, don't post in?" Try to close any of the subforums, and I'm guessing you'll find that it's significant to the regulars of that subforum.

Why take the only factor that separates GDF from OTF away from GDF? If you are to begin discussion Plato's 'Republica' you would do it in book forum, however, even so, Plato's ideas if we are to discuss them could well turn ugly. Most great philosophers focus was on politics, religion, and you cant ignore those. Philosophy secton would inclide the ideologies of Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, etc....these are all philosophies and if you are gonna have a pure philosophy forum, you cant exactly ignore those. People will have different fews on these, and I doubt that these things (for example ideologies) can be discussed on a pure pilosophical matter on an open forum like this.

I had a topic about Plato's Republic in the GDF it didn't turn ugly. hockeyhorror had a thread on Plato's Republic in the Book forum, and there was not conflict. Certain philosophical topics may involve politics, but is best to have a moderator in charge to make the final decision whether to close it or not.
Maybe you're right Danny, but the reason for that is because there are few people familiar with Plato's republica.
Have to say it, BF is right, too many people will get upset. Philosophy is about religion and politics..most of it it is.
Did you see what happened with the thread about communism in the GDF? How do you expet to talk about Marxist ideas without going politial? Plato's republia IS purely based on politics, and as the rules of the board say, politis arent allowed in any form.

personally, I'd wanna see a few more philos threads before someone conciders a philos forum I ain't seen nothing that warrants so much traffic it won't fit anywhere else
