With the olympics starting wouldnt it be sweet if MLB players could be in the olympics. I know it could never happen, but just think of the teams. The U.S. could have Clemens, Schimdt, Mulder, Hudson, Glavin, Randy for starting pitching. Bonds, Thome, Rolen, Piazza and more for hitters. Smoltz, Nathan, Hoffman, Kolb for relievers.

Pedro, Lima time, Colon for starting pitching. Sosa, Vladimir, Tejada, Furcal,Pujols, Manny, Soriono for hitters. Mota, K-Rod and Marino for the bullpen.
Canada wouldnt be as good but they would still have Harden for pitching, Larry Walker for hitting and Quantrill and of course Gagne for the bullpen.

sorry Cal but i think the Indians are gonna beat out the Twins in the division.. they have a way better offense.. perhaps the most under-rated team in the AL right now.. (they have the best record post all star brake as well) they have 12 games against each other left.. that will most likely decide it
they are 1 game back right now the white sox 4.. i say no shot for the twins on even reaching the playoffs

The Indians have been amazing especially considering they have one of the worst bullpens in the MLB. I still think the Twins will still win the division because of the Twins starting pitching and bullpen which I think usually beats out a great offense with the Indians.

The Twins were 8 and a half games out of first at the all star break last year and they won the division, so I think they can keep the lead from an very inexperienced team with a horrible bullpen and only 2 solid starters. Down the stretch the Indians young hitters will go into a slump like what always happens at some point with a young team and their bullpen will continue to blow games like they did tonight. The Twins have better pitchin, including the best pitcher in the American League, Johan Santana, they have a 40 hr hitting first baseman for the first time in 10 years, they have the 2nd best closer, top 5 defense, and will be getting the best catcher in the league back in september, Joe Mauer. So there is no reason they cannot win the division.
best catch joe mauer? hes played 35 games so far hitting .308 ever heard of pudge rodriguez?
plus Mauer resumes rehab
Catcher Joe Mauer can rehabilitate his sore left knee without surgery and may return to the lineup before the end of the season.
hes not even garunteed to be back
tim hudson on the A's is a better starter then santana
they only have one guy batting over .300 other then mauer who isnt in the lineup
jaque jones leades the team with 19 home runs.. no one on the twins will hit 40 Morneau (1b) is only at 10
cleveland definantly wont go anywhere in the playoffs either but i think they can give minnesota trouble.. either way the central doesnt have a playoff worthy team right now
Indeed, Cal. And it would be nice to see some fresh blood in the post-season mix--but then there's the chisox, too. Minnesota's been hovering on the brink of successs for years.
DanZeke--you were right--my Bucky Jacobsen stats were spanning 2+ seasons--that's still pretty good, though. For him, AND for me. With 700 ish posts--I was bound to make a couple of mistakes--in fact, I'm entitled to, I think. I can live with myself.
However, I can't be here right now--I haven't even watched a game in 2 weeks, and am not worthy of this discussion. I've been on vacation from pretty much everything but Cartoon Network and forensic files.
Morneau was only called up last month, so he will not hit 40 this year, but every guy in baseball says he's the best prospect in baseball and will win a mvp in 5 years. Joe Mauer coming back in september, there's no question about it. He's as good of hitter as Pudge and is better defensively. Johana Santana has the second best era, leads the league in strikeouts, has the lowest batting average against him, and even Pedro says Johan is bettter than he was at this point in their careers. The Twins also lead the league in stolen bases too. Just because they arn't the best hitting team doesn't mean anything. They weren't the best hitting team the last two years, but they made the playoffs. The Marlins weren't the best hitting team but they won the world series.

The best thing about Pudge defensively is his arm--he's not a great blocker, and he's horrible about digging in the dirt for a ball--ESPECIALLY with risp. Other than that, he IS great--a wonderful addtion to any team.
there are some many things that pudge brings to the table but i think his best is his ability to know his pitchers and call all the right picthes...he lets the pitchers know when they throw the pitch in the wrong location...i dont see the indians betting out the twins this year....espicially with the way nathan is closing out games
wuTa--hello! Nice to see you here. It's been a while since I ran across your stuff. Your panel's good, but I think you should have used that Associated Press picture with Iverson and Duncan's shocked and horrified expressions while watching the Puerto Ricans whoop our collective American asses. Ouch!
and forumcrew--that was nice of you to say about Wilson--he's super underrated, and it's nice to hear him getting some accolades from people I respect. thanks...
yea nothin like get your ass handed to you by the same team you dominated just a week ago in an exhibition game...i like iverson but i like the fact how everyone in the baskteball threads hate him and they all have to see him when i post...what can i say...im a peoples person
grew up goin to the kingdome (we actually have a piece of the concrete from when they blew it up) i remember the dan "the man" wilson chants.. he was never a big star but him and edgar have done a great job leading the team.. and always been consistantly good players
Even though he is a great player and one of the best catchers to ever play the game,I lost my respect for him after he signed with the tigers.I liked him for a long time because unlike so many other players he stuck with the team that drafted him for so many years.Because of that reason I was convinced he played the game for the love of the game instead of the love for the money like so many other players do.I dont know why he signed with the marlins but I was not pissed about it even though I could not understand why he left the rangers. Now after signing with detroit-one of the worst teams in the league,I have totally lost all respect for him that I had before because he is now just clearly playing the game for the love of the money and not for the love of the game.
I mean that has got to be the most moronic thing to do to leave a world series champion and go and sign with one of the worst teams in the league as a free agent,he obviously does not care about winning anymore since he already won a world series and is just playing the game for the love of the money now.Reminds me of that jerk Neil O'donnel when he left the Pittsburgh steelers to go and play for the NY JETS.the guy just went to the superbowl the previous year and all of a sudden he decides to leave the steelers to go play for the jets of all people-who were one of the worst teams in the leauge at that time,of all stupid things I ve heard of leaving a superbowl team to go and play for a horrible team like the jets, same with pudge,he justcomes off of winning a world series title and then decides to leave to go play for a horrible team like detroit, how stupid can you get? the guy is just in it fot the money these days and for that,I have no respect for pudge anymore.
I totally understand how you feel, but I bet most Tigers fans would tend you strongly disagree with you on this. The acquistions of both Rodriguez and Carlos gave them successful veteran presence and star- quality, 2 things the team was deficient in last season.
All points worth considering, forumcrew. Astute as usual, I see.
Pudge is like A-Rod--he is gonna be a huge addition to any team, and his salary will probably always be worth mentioning to somebody, but I think that he earns his money.
