exactly. No matter how good a player like pudge is- who is certainly like one of the top 5 best catchers of all time no doubt, nobody is worth that kind of money just for going out and hitting a ball and running around everyday.
news flash.. if teams didnt profit they wouldnt pay players that much.. so pudge is worth that much to the tigers becuase he makes them money.. baseball is a business like any other. you think an actor is worth what they are paid there still jsut reading lines someone else wrote.. its the fact that them being in it will make the movie company a profit
thats true....the tigers were dying......there was even so talk about them moving the team...they signed pudge...tigers start winning more people go to the games and people arent ashamed to admit they went to the tigers game to see the tigers...the teams satys in detriot....everyone wins
There's a difference between hitting a ball and trying to hit Rivera's 94 cutter, a Harden 97 fastball or a K-Rod slider.
Also you have to take in count all the weight training players do and running to keep in peek condition. Also especially in Pudge's case all the injuries he has to battle through.
Speaking of K-Rod a somewhat K-Rod clone has come up in the A's bullpen in Jairo Garcia. He has similar stuff with a 96 fastball and a nasty slider. He had trouble with his first stint mostly, because of not throwing strikes and his fastball doesn't have as much movement as K-Rod's does. Right now hes back in triple A Sacramento, but I hope he makes the playoff roster if the A's make it, because he could be huge in a postseason run for the A's.

I no none of u care but i just wanted to see if anybody has heared of any of the phillies prospects and rookies. One of the phillies rookie pitcher (Ryan Madson) has been very good for them until he got hurt and has been out for a while. He was a starter in the minor leagues but is in the bullpen for his rookie year. His first 22 innings in the Majors he didnt give up an earned run and hasnt given up many after that. I think he is gonna be a really good starter soon. Then there is Chase Utley who has been probaly the most clutch hitter for the phillies this year. He comes off the bench cause he is second base and Placido Polanco is also but when david bell got hurt polanco moved to third and utley went to second. Utley has 13 homers and alot of rbi's and a good average. I'd say he's only played about 30-35 full games too. I think he will be pretty good to. Then there is Gavin Floyd(pitcher) who has been great in the minor leaugue and i think he will be pretty good too. Cole Hamels is still in AA cause they dont want to rush him but he has got a lot of good pitches and was very good in spring training and the minor leugues. I know it was only spring training but he was pitching against the yankees with Sheffield, A-rod, and Giambi coming up and he struck out the side. Then there is Ryan Howard who was in AA until a little after the all-star break and he had 36 homeruns by the all-star break and then was moved up to AAA. I'm not sure how he's doing there. The only thing is, he is a lefted handed first baseman, and so is Jim Thome, and Thome isnt going anywhere for a while, so unless they can teach him another position then he will probaly be traded next year or the year after.
Ok i'm done. If u want u can say about the prospect u know of your team. I like hearing about other teams prospects.
Well the Twins have Jason Kubel, the 4th best prospect in baseball according to Baseball America, with a 350 average, 30-30 potential, and great defense, J.D Durbin, and Scott Baker. Those are their main prospects right now, since Mauer, Morneau, and Jesse Crain have been called up.

A's- Well a lot of the players from the moneyball draft are up to Triple A and will probably get on the team once the roster expands. Nick Swisher, the first round pick of the moneyball draft seems like a pretty good hitter and is a funny guy. Heres a link of a scouting report on him
I think the "fat catcher" Jeremy Brown is up in triple A and will probably be brought up soon.
Their's also Jairo Garcia as mentioned above and I dont have the name but theirs a pretty good starting pitcher in triple A that will probably get the fifth spot next year as the big three will probably be split up.

Giants- their a little tougher to follow as their triple A team is located in Fresno and Sabean has always traded away prospects for MLB players instead of developing young talent. (and I'm not ripping Sabean as thats the way he does things and he's been pretty successfully at it). Their's Valdez mentioned by me earlier in this thread, will probably be a big part in the bullpen for years to come as I think he was the big reason Felix Rodriguez got traded and with his 96 fastball and slider he is almost a duplicate of Felix. Also looking up minor league statistics theirs three players in triple A that have a plus .300 average.

Pretty amazing what happens when bullpen pitchers know their roles. The A's bullpen has a 26 IP scoreless innings streak going, which is pretty amazing when the A's had a bullpen by committee they had the worst bullpen in the MLB, but since Billy got Dotel the A's bullpen has gotten down to the middle of the pack. A guy like Rincon who had a ERA in the 6's earlier in the year has gotten it down to the 3's and is tough on lefties. I'm starting to really like Dotel. He can be erratic at times, but he is really starting to control his blazing fastball. His fastball is quite amazing as he throws it 90% of the time. It usually goes 94 to 91 and once a while 96, but it has so much movement that it can look like a 2 seamer and a cutter at times.
If the A's make the playoffs, their bullpen could be pretty good for them, when you can have Rhodes, Rincon, Hammond for lefties, Bradford, Mecir and the Duke of long relief for righties and Dotel closing you have a lot of matchups you can set up in your favor.

Yeah.... i turned on ESPN and saw the score. that was great. It wasnt on TV though where i live. And the Red Sox are only 3 1/2 behind the Yankees now. That would be great if the Red Sox got into first place and stayed and then the angels or rangers or atheletics win the wild card and the Yankees dont even make the playoffs.
I repeat. No baseball player is worth the kind of money Pudge or someone like Derek jeter for the yankees is getting paid.Baseball is out of control. The players and the owners have ruined the game. They have pudge but all its done is help them win a few more games every year. They still have a losing season.I myself could care less if the tigers moved away from detroit now that they tore down the classic tiger stadium. The new stadium they have COMERICO PARK looks like crap.Thats another thing that has turned me off towards baseball is all these owners tearing down historic ballparks and not giving a rats a$$ about tradition and history.I laughed my a$$ off when the first year when the tigers had a new ballpark,it brought in lots of fans, after that though, the attendance despite the new ballpark has been horrible. Im just glad I got to see old tiger stadium when I went to the last game of the year there before it got torn down.
