but it shows ypu what he is capable of. this, plus the fact that i watched most of both players careers, and i have seen them go head to head several times, trust me. they are equally talented. MJ was more flashy and took more shots, because he was ona crappier team. it wasnt until MJ got some talented players that he won titles. if MJ drives in and does a funky double clutch layup, then bird goes down and does the same, MJ looks better at it because he hangs in the air and shit.

...while true, is not why Jordan is better than Bird. And, I am 37 years of age, I have also seen them play, and against each other.

I'll ask you one question: who is regarded as the best basketball player ever? There is a reason for it. Because there are so few (if any) who were so complete on BOTH ends of the floor like MJ. Larry couldn't stop Michael on any given possession, period. Why shoot when you can blow past Larry? In a one on one game, I can see Larry backing MJ in every single time (if he's smart). He ain't going past Michael from the top of the key, believe me. And if he does, MJ would recoop. Conversely, if Larry blinks MJ's hanging from the rim for 2 points.

Larry would have to hit every shot against MJ, because Mikey ain't missing a "gimme".
wink

larry bird was complete on both sides of the floor, man. he played good D, just as MJ did. larry couldnt stop him, and vice versa. the fact that bird couldnt blow past MJ, but was still able to score at will on him, this speaks volumes. bird relied on his skills as a player and knowledge for the game, not his god given athleticism. also, MJ blinks, and bird drains a 3 or makes a no look pass.
the reason MJ is regarded by many as the best of all time is because he looked better doing it than bird did. sure, MJ won 6 titles and bird only 3, but thats only because the league was tougher when bird won his. he had magic and the lakers to contend with. who did MJ and the bulls have? the suns? the blazers? the pistons when they were on the decline? sorry, bird had a tougher time winning the titles than MJ did. BTW...bird is the king of taking advantage of "gimmee's".

Bird was no where near MJ's level on D.

Thats true, Michael never led his team in assists in a season, and he scored countless 40, 50, 60 point games.

Dude, I get that you like Larry. It's ok. So do I. As a matter of fact, I first hated him. But, I came to appreciate the talent he had over time, and actually loved him for his uncanny deadly shooting and selfless, smart play.

Now, it is much easier to be a team player on a team with McHale, Parrish, Walton, DJ, Ainge, blah, blah, blah, than to be so on team MJ had. Later, in his career Mikey became the team player Bird always was. ...was the reason why he finally won championships, because he became a team player.

I believe his point was that Michael didn't have to be the greatest passer to dominate games in ways Bird never could.

Orrrr, was he saying that because he (MJ) didn't have the assist production Bird had, that he wasn't the team player Bird was?

Possible, but I still read it as what Jordan didn't have in assists, he made up for with scoring incredibly well.
