I think, whatever you do, is what you, yourself, your being would have done. It'S not worth to think 'I should have done it another way', because that wouldn't be you anymore. So in other words, whatever you do or have done, was your destiny....
Does it make sense, because it does to me, but that doesn't mean anything.
Good point. I think there are external factors that have influence on our free will, but if the person who makes the decision has a strong will, and a strong personality, she can get rid by herself of all this influences. Maybe so many people believe in predestination because they have a weak will, or can never get the expected results in their lives. I donīt want to offend anybody, Iīm just analyzing the situation.
this is an easy question. look at it this way:
the future may not be set in stone, but the present is. everything that will happen is determined by what is happening now. in theory, there is only one possible outcome to happen next. you may be able to make choices, but everything that has happened ever before is what determines what choice you will make. time will move one way, there wont be any turns or forks or branches because if you look at everything in the present only one outcome is possible.
If you take quantum mechanics in consideration, you will see that there is not only one possible outcome, it says that what happens in the present cannot determine the future precisely, and it is impossible to determine future precisely. For me thats because we can choose the future, so it canīt be determined by external factors only like quantum mechanics imply, it depends on us.
did you even read my post? we can choose, but everything about our character, every driving force for our emotions, has already happened. so, yes it depends on the choices we make but the choices are all determined by the past and present. thus, there will only be one outcome. we cant change the future because the future hasnt happened yet. we cant decide to change the flow of time because time is already flowing in that direction. the flow of time isnt about what choices you can make, but what choices you will make.

I don't believe in an undetermined future or set past. There is only now, and now always changes. There is a direction to cause and effect that is always the same. This gives us a feeling of time, but there is no future and there is no past, only now.

When you think about yesterday, you do it now. You replay the pattern in your brain and you do it now. When you look at a picture, you look at it now, you look at a sheet of paper that has a pattern of chemicals on it, that reflect different wave lengths of light, and this triggers a set of patterns in your brain that interpret the color and patterns to have a meaning. You can look at an effect and understand the cause, you can even tell how many units of change (time) has taken place, but you do it now, You can look at a cause and predict, based on known information, the number of units of change (time) will pass before the effect is known. but you do it now.
The problem is that people look at time as linear..It would be interesting if past present and future were all running side by side instead of a line...That all the past, pres. and future are so in fact there is always just now...but infinite dimensions....kinda hard to explain....Did you see the movie "What the Bleep do we know"....It talks about this.....
Past, present and future are ilusions of our consiousness, we just perceive the present, and that it is always changing. When it changes, lets say from A to B, we have memories of A in our head, then we say thats in the past.

Just because you (as a human) can only perceive time in a linear fashion, do not assume it is that way for everyone in the universe. This is not intended to start a "Do Aliens Exist" discussion, but there could exist a species that perceives time as a whole, and not just a samll fragment of it.
Overall there is no destiny. There is only a series of events, triggered by different people, or nature. If people do it they have motives and reason, no one is forcing them to. God isn't forcing them to and so called destiny isn't forcing them to either. If mother nature acts there is a reasonable cause for it. Mother nature isn't spontanous. It's movements are created by its self. No one makes your boss fire you, and no one makes, the thugs a block over deliver a drive by. Only those individual people do.
Each event triggers another and another. The only events you can control are your own! In the end I beleive you control your future. In my mind I am destined for great things, I have envisioned my future and I can bring my self to that future despite the happenings around me regardless of how bad a situation is. You create the outcome.
The entire world happens around you. The world is nothing but a joint effort of indivisual people's actions. From a different point of view you are among them.
But the entire world cannot affect your life more then you yourself can.
For instance you were born poor, in the ghetto, in the projects, abusive parents, bad school, dangerous community. That is a lot of bad things happening to you that are out of your control. You got one thing going for you, that is yourself. There is always an answer or a route that will bring you to any destination. In the end your in control.
Fate is a determined futer by a higher omnipotent, intangible being.
Chance is....is chance ya know? It just sort of happens out of the blue.
Choice is...oh c'mon we know what choice is. Our own decision, not the omnipotent being's.
