The egg ofcourse, first there were eggs after came ye chicken, for ye chicken cannot exist from itself it needs the egg. Can there be a human without a seed? What was first? The Human or the seed? You know the answer unto this but not of ye egg? It is obvious...

First i just need to say i didn't read all the thread. I wanted to address the fact about the first single celled organism on earth. Maybe someones explained already, maybe not but here it is.

Life was brought to this planet by other celestial bodies i.e. comets, asteroids and meteorites crashing into earth after the earth had cooled down these bacteria and organisms could survive, adapt and evolve into bigger and better specimens. Leave them to do their thing and after 2 billion yrs have passed we r the end result. Where did the comets and asteroids come from i here u ask? Other planets that had life, exploding or coming apart, sending these rocks with life on them around our universe which is probably how it all began 14 billion yrs ago. Maybe even a higher intelligence had a hand in it, I'm not even going to say because i don't know. But that is how i think life first appeared on earth.

As for the "Chicken or Egg" question, its a hard one. But to make it more simple how about this. Which came first? "You (egg) or your Parents (chicken)?"

Nice one maggee... but then, you are not really answering the question...
The question still remains...--> which came first...

And Sicky666, as you know, the egg can only hatch if it were to sit by a chicken... how can it hatch if there is no chicken to begin with?

Well in a way i am. I mean u could not be here with out ur parents being here or their parents or even ur parent's parents lol. Just like an egg could not be here with out its parent or its parent's parents.

Didn't we all evolve from a one celled organism or something? not sure what that has to do with anything...

the 'egg' certainly came before the chicken as we know it... I'm sure there were creatures before chicken's that carried eggs even if they did stay in the uterus...

but what the hell do I know...

It is a question not meant to be answered

really it is a paradox but the chicken more probably came first cause the egg might have hatched to form either a cock or a hen and a cock couldnt make eggs right

Which Came First?

The chicken or the egg?

An age old question, that may at first seem trite or idiotic, but I submit it to the collective intellect of this forum.

the egg.............not necissarily a chicken's egg though.

birds are decended from reptiles. reptiles lay eggs. the very first reptile whose mutated traits classified it as a chicken was hatched from an egg.

I agree, however, if the chicken is a metaphor for animal then you have to go way back to before sexual reproduction, to find the right animal.

I know, I was just taking it a step further; thought if I brought in evolution into the conversation it would spice things up. I wasn't meaning to overshadow your answer, just embellish. embarrasment

Where do you draw the line? Science, Philosophy and Religion can be the same thing. There is a lot of grey area.

how do you figure? All science is based on philosophy. I believe one of the fundemental philosophical questions is "how did we get here".......evolution ofcourse being the answer to the question.

all science begins with a question. A person pondering an idea in their head........this is philosophy. That question is then attempted to be answered.......using science.
