What I would suggest, if a restructure is ever in the developing stages, is this;
Movies
----->
Movie Discussion
----->
Action/Adventure (Bond)
Anime
Comedy
Classics
Cult
Comic Book Movies (X-Men)
Drama
Fantasy (LOTR..HP..)
Foreign
Horror
Independent
Martial Arts (Hero, etc)
Sci Fi
Westerns
You take the existing "franchises" that are under the "Movie Franchises" moniker, and subset them from their appropriate "genre", i.e. "Matrix" in Sci Fi. That way, you're guaranteed to generate traffic to the genre's sections because peoples favorite franchises will be housed there, and they are obviously going to like other movies IN that genre, and post them.
Once you have the already established "franchises" in place, then you should be able to submit OTHER movies for consideration that should potentially have their own subset, like "The Matrix" does. Movies/franchises like "Resident Evil" or "Star Trek".
Sections I feel should be done away with potentially, with a merge would be "Comic Book Movies" under the Franchise moniker, as well as the "Franchise" forums altogether, seeing as how they'd be integrated into the general movie forums, with their own forum branching from there.
Quentin Tarantino doesn't necessarily merit his own forum either. The guy has done 4 movies, and not another one until 2006. His movies can be discussed under the "Cult" banner, or under a potential "Directors" forum.
The rest of the forums would be fine, as is, but a little clearer distinction should be made between OFF TOPIC and GENERAL DISCUSSION, because to visitors, they are basically one and the same.

Problem with that, is that very few movies fit into 1 genre...like you have Matrix listed as should go under sci-fi, but really it would fit better under action IMO. Also, what makes a movie a cult or classic? Those can be based on opinion.
I think it'd be better to keep the current structure, because it'd be much easier to find something; after all, how many people know most of these subforums exist? Hiding away the Matrix forum, as you're suggesting, would be akin to signing its death sentence...and I'm not willing to just let my beloved forum and the reason I joined KMC die that easily; it's already slow enough as it is. Also, all these tons of subforums would majorly clutter up the Movie Discussion forum.
I'd suggest a Fantasy movie forum, too, but maybe just for the sake of keeping it more simple make it Sci-Fi/Fantasy? Since there are many sci-fi movies that have fantasy elements and vice-versa, and the two genres are often grouped together.
Anime really shouldn't be grouped with the other movie genres because anime refers to MANY things; movies, TV shows, comics, art style, etc...
And would we really need THAT many genre subforums? Maybe if the interest was there...but so far I haven't seen requests for specific genres other than sci-fi.
If none of that is feasible, I suggest revamping the "Franchises" thread to be a little less biased. Q.T. should go. Period. Anime should be kicked to Miscellaneous, with artwork, etc, and Sci Fi, being as vast as it is, gets its own forum with Horror. Both are somewhat "special interest" genres as it is.
Why not expand "Comic Book Movies" to include BOTH "Comic Book and Video Game" movies? That way, you can have a place to discuss the "Resident Evil", "Mortal Kombat", and "Final Fantasy" movies, all of which are extremely popular and still active.

But last night about 3:45 am CST (yeah, I couldn't sleep) KMC stopped loading and working for me....not sure if it was just my computer or if other people were also having problems at this time, but I thought I'd point it out anyway.
Ummmm I really hate it when I accidentally put to much words or images and the I submit but I have to go back and write all over again because I forgot to copy!!!!!
I'm thinking about having a mixture of both. As in, still keep the franchise forums that are successful on the main page, and then move the less successful ones into a sub-forum of a genre, like the ones CA suggested.
However, moving a less successful forum into obscurity won't help its popularity longterm, so might need a bit more thought.
I don't know how long they were offline because that was when I decided to give up and get some sleep...I tried refreshing for 3 or 4 minutes before I gave up, though.
