You do realise there is a difference between naming someone after someone, and actually being based on them, right? He may be named after him, but his personality largely is an homage to Roshi.
Like I said, they are named after them, they are not based off their characters, for the most part.
You misunderstand. What I said is not arguable. DBZ is the archetypical Shounen manga, it is natural that it served as inspiration for those that follow, please note I am not saying this to bash the later manga or saying they are unoriginal, only inspired by it. DB itself based Goku off of Sun Wukong, and DBZ took some inspiration from Superman for his origins.
I was joking. I was not trying to change your opinion, why you are taking this so seriously I do not know, nor do I know why you are in a serious tone expressing your opinion as fact. I never found Jiraiya particularly funny. At all. The funniest thing he did was write porno novels, and that was only funny because we were able to see some of its contents ala Kakashi. I do think Jiraiya is cool and fairly badass, but less so than Roshi. Am I saying this to discredit your own view? No, it is my own opinion.
Do you realise Jiraiya's character in the fable was exaclty like it is in Naruto, right? In the fable he's decipted as a pervert, and a sage, and a specialist in toad magics. Or so they say.
Probably because i don't see why you made your comment. The only thing it seemed to do was try to upstage Jiraiya, someone i put on my list to which i don't see why you did that. It's only natural i become defensive if you go offensive, right?
To my knowledge he was not a pervert, nor did he engage in the typical perverted old man antics common in anime, he was a ninja, do not know if he was a literal sage.
It was a joke at first, then I offered some clarification, noting how Jiraiya was based on him...That was it. I did not try to convince you that Roshi was better, I made a joke, you asked who he was, and I told you.

You must REALLY like anime then. I find them all to be the same character over and over, if they don't look alike, they act alike. I have not seen every anime in the world but I think I've seen enough to state an opinion.
