Open Water

I am going to take a nice and long sigh before I can write this little review. Okay, here I go.

....
.......
..........
..............

Okay, I am done.
Where can I start?
All I can say is that this movie relied way too much on tension build-up rather than some monumentally scary pay-off, which tragically it could have very easily pulled off but chose not to.
It also seemed as if the character development was done way too quickly. The more or less stale calm before the horror has gotten very old for me.
Anyway, all it did was remind me of how good Blair Witch was.
This movie wasn't scary, and got old and boring very quickly.
Though it was directed quite well and I like the two actors, I can only give it a 2/10.

Movie was below average; I'm glad I didn't know the ending beforehand.
The ending actually surprised me, and I knew there was a surprising ending of sorts.

--Copied from my post in the Horror Forum--

I rented it about a week ago, and I have mixed feelings about it..

First of all, I really apreciate teh feel and realism of the movie. Being filmed out in the middle of the ocean with LIVE sharks is admireable in this day and age. Obviously they cared greatly for this project to do such a thing.

Also, there are some truley amazing visuals that are only impressive because they are so obviously real, and could not have been faked and held any similar amount of power.

Lastly, it's study on the human spirit and the way people would react in such a situation is extremely unsettling. All the way up to the ending you are on the edge of your seat, and at the end, your heart will break if you invest in the chracters.

The biggest fault of the film was that it was extremely slow, nothing really happens throughout most of the movie. It relies soley on realism as it's driving force to make you care about the events happening on screen. These people stuck in teh ocean could easily be me and you, and this relativity is never forgotten during the film.

All in all, it's a solid, interesting and uniqe film that should be watched. It's not for everyone, but it should be interesting in some way or another to most people. If for no other reason - then because of the way it was filmed and it's eerie believability.

7 out of 10

I'm a diver and love it (when I get the chance), even after seeing Open Water. It would have to take a lot more than that to get me to quit.
BF's statement in this paragraph above is very true.

well it was supposed to be based on a true story.. my problem is the only truth could be that they left 2 divers behind with the way it ended theres no way they would ever know how long it took or have any idea what happened..

i felt this movie was definantly bellow average

[SPOILER - highlight to read]: Well, the guy got bit by a shark and bled to death, his wife/gf/whatever she was then just let him drift and he was eaten by sharks. Then, she herself just sat there knowing she was next, then she quickly got pulled under water (presumably by a shark, there was like 20 of them around the two divers by the end of the move, since one of them had gotten cut), that's pretty much where it ends.

Maybe I completely missed it, but I thought [SPOILER - highlight to read]: she committed suicide and drowned herself.

Its about two people who are going scuba diving and the boat accidently leaves them behind. So they're left in the middle of the ocean alone. You know the story.....sharks come along etc, ocean animals!! Pretty much that!!
