How can NEo say that he never heard a program speak of love, when Persephone told him right in his face that she used to be in love withe the Merve.?

no no no...you are mxing up two of Persephones statements together. Persephone says that Merv was different, he was like Neo. Then she says that Neo and Trinity love each other. She also refers to Merv as "my love", but that is a term of endearment, not really meaning she loves him.
