This may be a very disappointing dunk contest. Josh Smith, J.R. Smith, and Amare are expected to do the dunk contest. The Smiths could do pretty well but I doubt they'll be up to Carter or J-Rich's level. Amare is not a fancy dunker. He is a power dunker. If there was 8 contestants like the good ole days, sure, put some power dunkers in but not when there is only 4 slots. The 4th will most likely be Lebron or Chris Anderson (if Lebron declines). I really want to see Lebron do it and I really don't want CA to do it again. The guy only did two-handed dunks off the backboard which are easy as hell when you are 6'10". Please, anybody but him.

Anderson cracks me up, but i agree its always better to see guys 6-8 and smaller in the dunk contest. Whats up with there only being 4 dunkers? Is that a new rule? Its a shame that so many players have opted out this year, especially since there are some great dunkers in the league. Fred Jones didnt impress me last year, the only reason he won was because J-Rich couldnt get anything down. Amare is better at dunking on people that creating fancy dunks, i dont know much about the Smiths (sounds like something from the Matrix).

The Smiths should put on a pretty good show but some good dunkers choke under the pressure (ie: Ricky Davis). Players demand more money to enter the dunk contest these days so I'm guessing that is why the NBA cut it to 4. It really lowers the competition. At least the wheel didn't continue because that would have REALLY killed the contest.

Its a shame its not about the fans who pay to watch it anymore. There has been some amazing contests down the years, for me its one of the high points of the weekend.

Well, Chris Anderson is in. The NBA will allow James to do it if he wants still. It may be a last minute decision. He has a game that Thursday, the Rookie game Friday, and the all-star game that Sunday so you really can't blame him. That would be 4 days in a row.

Man, i am fu**in gutted. I've just found out that ESPN will not be showing the All Star Game!
ESPN is supposed to be some big sports channel and they cant even get the rights to the holly grail of the basketball season. This blows, im hoping you guys can let me know how it went.

Man, the sophomores killed the rookies! I can't believe they actually had the lead at one point but in the end it was just too much Lebron, too much Carmelo.

That MVP for Melo was bullshit. Bosh earned it hands down and they gave it to Melo because it was his home town and everybody expected him to be an actual All-Star. Melo had 31 one points compaired to Bosh 's 26 but that was the ONLY stat Melo had over Bosh. Even then, the difference there is that Bosh EARNED his points and worked for them. Melo cherry picked and got easy points that Lebron set up for him. Lebron could have had easy fast breaks but gave Melo the points. Besides points, Bosh had 14 rebounds compaired to Melo's 5 (9 more!), 4 steals compaired to Melo's 2, 1 block to 0, 3 asts to 2, and 0 turnovers compaired to 2. Plus, Melo got 31 points but that was the biggest ball hog display I have ever seen IN MY LIFE! I swear he only passed 3 times. My friends and I noticed his lack of passing and watched him repeatedly not making any passes and taking the shot himself. Lebron on a couple of occations would look like he was going to take a jump shot but decided not to settle. He would then pass it out to Melo, who took the shot EVERY TIME. James could have shot it if they were going to settle for the jumper but he wanted to work the ball into something closer. Not Melo. No wonder the Nuggets suck. On a positive note, how about Korver's 3-ball? 7-10 threes but it was 7-9 until he for fun shot one 10 feet outside of the 3-point line.

what did i tell you guys, I'm so glad he's on the Sixers, he is so fun to watch, about three weeks ago, there was 0.4 seconds left and the Sixers were down by three, they inbound to Korver who hits the fade away from the corner to send it to overtime, that was crazy, too bad we still lost. Go Korver, he's gonna win the 3 point shootout!!
I was happy and disappointed with the dunk contest. Here's why:
Martin from a chair to Smith. Smith took off from about 1 and 1/2 feet inside the free throw line.
J.R. Smith's behind the back.
Stoudemire's off the backboard, off Nash's head, 180.
Those were all great.
Smith's other 3 dunks were all performed really well but they were all done before. He did the free throw line but not quite. He did Nique's. windmill. And he did Carter's 360 windmill. All were very good but not original. For that, I don't think he deserved 10s.
Stoudemire definitely did not deserve a 45 on his first dunk. He brought it between the legs, 2 hands reverse. Done TONS of times and it usually looks better. His baseline between the legs 2 hand reverse was nice but again, done before, not original.
Really big downside: Chris Anderson. What did I say? He took 16 attempts to make 2 dunks. The 1st was alright at best and the second was crap. Off the bounce from J.R. Smith he attempted a 180 but it was more like a reverse where he turned the rest of the way after the dunk and barely got it in. Why did he beg to be in this? We knew from last year he sucked. Why why why?

yea you called it...that was pathetic...anderson deserves a lifetime ban at all-star games...if i ever see him in public i'm whipping a basketball right at his face point blank

Man, that slam dunk contest was pretty phat. I think the best two dunks were by Josh and Amare and they both involved other people. The one with Josh and Kenyon was cool, dunkin from a pass that he threw to him while sittin on the chair, that was . The one with Amare and Steve was cool too, when he threw the pass off his head and Amare caught it and then on top of that did a little 180 turn and dunked it, that was tight. But in the end it was Josh all the way, he had way more hang time on his dunks, amare is just to big to do the kinda stuff he does.
Chris Anderson is just a damn fool......I don't know what he was doin there, he must have been there for comic relief I guess cuz that's all he was. It was funny to hear how Charles and Kenny were makin fun of him that was hilarious
