[SPOILER - highlight to read]: Well you can compare its architecture with that of Gondor. Static very nicely build stone buildings. On the other hand it's all quite cool.
As for their politics they are best compared to athenes in Ancient greece.
The Mercurionas (the citizens of the so called country) are proud to call themselves republicans and to live in a republic (now a republic is a bit of a big word but its the closest thing to it) You're a very old nation. Founded by a half-elf named "The Founder" He travelled to your land. As ledgend has it he was the first man to cross the Linae (a river) and by that the first to travel that far to the West. Then your history goes black for a while. 300 years after The Founder appeared your history continues by this time you have made peaceful contact with the Feyfolk. They are entwined with your bloodlines. This has both benefits and backdraws. One of the benefits is that you took on the grace of this mythical race (resulting in a +2 to all charisma based checks) the backdraw is that your race needs to sleep like normal humans (8 hours instead of 4 hours meditating)
At the heart your people just want to be left alone. This is why you hardly venture out to East and West. Your character is one of the exceptions to do so. Why you left is up to you
You are always free to return altho bringing visitors would be frowned upon.
