Question I just asked a few posts ago. If you are so sure that the now is different from what it was then, I'd be interested to hear your reasoning. That is why I asked the question in the first place, right back at the start. As you say, you DID live through a section of that time and therefore you have some authority on the matter. I simply don't take well to saying that I cannot disagree with you because I am not American is all.

Ushgarak, I can not even begin to explain the feeling of love I have for my country (stupid presidents and all) to you. As Ive tried to explain to you over and over again, unless you live here, you cant understand it. It's a tangible thing for myself and MANY but certainly not ALL Americans. And a person can research something like that to death and still not have a grasp of what it is, because its a feeling, an emotion. What I see as arrogant, is that you attack arguments in an analytical way all the time, and while that works 90% of the time, it doesnt always. Well that and you have a tendency to talk down to people, which is not nice. You may know something other people dont, but you dont have to phrase your facts in such a way that makes your opponent feel small. You dont have that effect on me anymore, cause frankly, I've just learned to just laugh my ass off about it, but the fact remains, there are those that feel that way.
And I never said the demonstration of the 60's ear didnt exist. That stuff goes on everywhere, in every country. What I did say about that, is that I felt 90% of it was asinine. And I was wrong when I said only todays youth felt this, because I overlooked the "50's" movement. Mainly, cause I tend to be ignorant about anything related to that time in US history by CHOICE.
If people don't like rational argument, that's their problem. It's the way the world works- if your argument cannot meet rationality... it's not an argument.
But the fact is, people don't all agree with you there. I have to weigh up what they say against what you do. Only you have told me, out of anyone, that I cannot understand. hence I find that very unlikely.
So ok, now we have established that it is not only the new generation that feels this way- that at least one other has before, and in the opinion of people such as Lana and myself, several more also.
So can we really criticise the new wave doing the same thing as their forebears, many of whom went on to make the US the place it is today?
(of course, you might have ISSUES with how it is today...)

I think one of the biggest probelms here besides the age gap, is the rural vs urban difference. You forget I grew up and have lived my entire life in Kansas, which has a really different feel than say Chicago or New York. That alone counts for alot of my statements.
Ush, can you be any more OBTUSE? I am 43 years old. The MAJORITY of THIS board is 25 and below. Its the SETTING here. Now if you want to take your argument to a board that has a membership with the majority of people ABOVE 30, then quite frankly, you'd be hard pressed to find a ton of people that will agree with YOU. It's demographics.
And no matter how you explain the way that you post, the simple fact is, that MANY people think you talk DOWN to them. Human-up a little and you'll find that people wont get quite so torqued.
