given vikings post, i think yoda did try and block it, because he did raise his hands, but severly underestimated the power. when they did it again, yoda was prepared, but still could only hold it for a short period before the power became overwhelming.
yeah, but look at how much time he had to prepare while sids kept babbling on, he probably assumed it would be like dooku, he did crap all to block dookus lightning, against sidious he had to use both hands and still couldnt overcome it.
noone gets electrocuted anymore, its all fancy pants flipping and throwing...
back in my day, when some punk kid got zapped from an evil sith lord, they fell down and took the pain up the anal passage. and they looked like they were getting zapped and in pain. look at yoda, he just gets up and acts like nothing ever happened...no pain...no stress...no smoke.....nothing.
He may have taken a hit, sure, but it did practically nothing. As Mist pointed out, look at how it affected Luke. Yoda on the other hand recovers from it almost instantly, then hits Sidious with an awesome psychokinetic push that sends him flying MUCH further back.
Sidious tries to run (like a scared rat) and Yoda stops him. "If so powerful are you, then why do you run?" And he doesn't answer.
Yoda got owned the first time because he underestimated Palpatine's lightning. By the time he realized it might be too much to handle, he was knocked backwards.
But during the finale of their fight when Palpatine shocked him again, you can see Yoda take it painfully and then slowly but surely deflect it back to Palpatine.
The difference between this fight and the one with Dooku was Yoda was on the offensive with Dooku but much more on the defensive with Palpatine and much more nervous it seemed. Palpatine seemed to be just toying with him, cackling and laughing, until the end when he also got knocked backwards by his lightning.

Yoda underestimated Palpatine. He paid severely for it. The lightning from Palpatine overpowered Yoda's defenses. Now, listen to me. Yoda did NOT recover from it almost instantly. You go watch the movie again. It is PALPATINE who recovers almost instantly. When Yoda Force pushes him - Palpatine goes flipping over his desk. Then boom! He gets right back up.
Yoda is nearly unconscious from Palpatine's attack. Get your facts straight.
