I will try to revive the party. Did anyone know about the proposition in the 'fifties to do a really bad LOTR production? Tolkein was furious about how bad the drafts were. They suggested things like putting beaks and feathers on orcs and leaving out the quest to Mount Doom.

Then probably your penfriend knows best what to visit 
"Somewhere near Linz" is not the most touristic region, though (outside Linz at least) but they do have the nicest German dialect in existence there (or so I think, since it's my childhood dialect).

Don't know if many Germans feel that way. Bavarians certainly don't.
There's this prejudice about regions where people speak in a Bavarian accent being less urbanized, though.
