I fail to see how anybody can get excited about this film after the last two of them sucked.

This movie was great, the best one since the original, and very close in quality and heart to that one. This was the finale that the series deserved, a classic, IMO.

I don't plan on seeing this, but I did hear that it was great, especially if you liked the first ones.

For this to get a good review, I'm thinking it must be pretty darn good, because it has a lot of things that could have turned viewers off- it's a pick-up of an old series with the potential to have either no/old/lame plot, boxing isn't as popular as it once was, the star is like 60+, etc...nice job to Stallone and crew for apparently managing to avoid all that.

I don't think Rocky 4 sucked, I watched it recently and it was enjoyable, though very cheesy.

Rocky Balboa has very little in common with the sequels, it is very much in the spirit of the original, subtle, plausable, and incredibly uplifting.

The first Rocky film is nothing short of magical, IMO. I just felt that after parts 2 and 3, the story was getting more and more repetitious and bland than the previous.

DVD for me.

Since I havent had breakfast yet, Im gonna eat my words! This movie was awsome. The fight itself wasnt all that but the movie itself was incredible. Like Backfire said, this movie is subtle- I like how they didnt push the envelope with a Lil Maggie/Rocky thing, plausable- It could happen, specially since the champ didnt took him too seriously at the beggining, and incredibly uplifting- the speech he gave his son outside the restaurant was amazing and then recalling that during the fight, simply awsome. I also like how they showed how time has passed and things changed from Rocky's begginings and man I had forgotten how much of a dick Pauly was! I dont know if it was the best movie of 2006 but it has to be among the top 3!

Yeah thats why I actually prefer Rocky 5 over Rocky 4 because Rocky 4 was really repititious and Rocky 5 was a lot more believeable and more realistic.Rocky 4 was a copycat and rip off of rocky 3.Rocky 3 he goes and fights clubber lang because he feels responsible for mickeys death. If he had never talked mickey into another fight then that accident would never have happened that caused him to die when he got shoved into the wall by Mr T.Rocky 4 same old story. He fights Drago because he feels responsible for Appollo's death since Appollo wanted to talk Rocky into fighting him and Rocky said no,appollo fights him instead and appollo goes and dies.talk about no originality, predictability and a copy cat off Rocky 3. roll eyes (sarcastic) You just knew Rocky would not lose to the russian. Then of course theres that believeability factor that is totally ludicrise in Rocky 4.Like someone else mentioned earlier,no human being could live through that punishment Rocky took in Rocky 4.He would have died just like appollo did.cheesy as hell.Rocky 5 to me is like Halloween 3 season of the witch. If you dont think of it as a Rocky movie, its not to bad.The movie itself is actually interesting, its just not a rocky movie because Rocky trains someone instead of fighting someone.Plus that street fight scene was pretty cool and made the movie kinda enjoyable. It was something different, something we hadnt seen before. That being said, from what I have heard this new rocky movie sounds more promising than Rocky 4 or 5.

thats another reason why I prefer rocky 5 over rocky 4 was they show how much time has passed by since he first fought appollo creed. It was kinda touching when he was in the old gym of mickeys and he was reflecting on the times when Mickey taught him how to box and he was looking at the spot where mickey stood when he talked with him once.Like you said, they did that with rocky 5 showing just how much things had changed since his beginnings.Like i said,if you dont think of rocky 5 as a rocky movie,as a movie itself, its not that bad.Much better written than rocky 4 and much more believeable and realistic.I mean fighting a superhuman like he did in rocky 4 that doesnt work for a rocky movie.

I SO want to see this.
I wanted to watch it opening day, but I didn't know when it came out, since first the studio said December, then February, then January, then February, and then I just didn't know. sad Oh well. I'll watch it whenever, then. I am a huge Rocky fan.

just saw it tonight and thought it was really good. to me rocky is a trilogy at this point. 1 and 2 were great, this is a fitting end, and rocky 3 and 4, though amusing, was just silly. rocky 5 was just a disaster.
