Descendents are the first American punk band in the lineage of 'pop-punk' – unlike their later, shitty emulators, they are awesome. Highlight: 'Milo Goes to College' (perfect album).
Black Flag are generally regarded as one of the greatest hardcore punk bands; I stand by that. They are fantastic. Good starting point: 'The First Four Years' or 'Damaged'.
Bad Brains: also hardcore punk, but they're also just totally unique. Highlight: 'Bad Brains' (debut album).
X-Ray Spex were a British band, female fronted. They used a mix of piercing vocals, punk power chords and sax. They only have one 'real' album (Germfree Adolescents), so get that.
Adolescents: get their eponymous debut from the early '80s. They ripped it up; that's all I can say right now.
The Adverts were a British punk band that weren't boring (!). Their debut album 'Crossing the Red Sea with The Adverts' is all you'll need to have a good night.
X are one of the greatest of all LA bands, ever. Chuck Berry-derived riffs and a rockabilly bounce make their first two albums indispensable.
Bad Religion's album 'Suffer' puts any punk from the '90s to shame. It's got hits from back to front, and really brought melodic vocal lines to new heights in punk.
Buzzcocks, 'Singles Going Steady': what can be said? Nearly every ****ing song is a hit. Classic after classic. One of the best UK punk bands.
Germs: more great LA punk, they have a collection of all of their studio work so find that. 'Lexicon Devil' is one of punk's all-time great songs.
Jawbreaker are a band with a spotless discography, so if you aren't already a fan, start with 'Unfun' or 'Bivouac', but all of their albums are great in their own ways.
Reinventing Axl Rose by Against Me! is a solid millennial punk album, one of the best of the 2000 - 2010 period.
You probs don't need to be told that the three main Stooges albums are masterpieces and so are the first four Ramones albums. Also 'Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables' by the Dead Kennedys.
Stiff Little Fingers are the best Irish punk band – 'Inflammable Material' is the solid classic but their following two albums are also great.
The Wipers are severely underrated. Check out their first three albums. 'Youth of America' is a highlight of that period.
Oh yeah, and – 'Zen Arcade' by Hüsker Dü is the greatest punk album of all time.
Enjoy.
Edit: I wanna add Television – Marquee Moon. It's from the punk era, and it fits the bill, but it's so much more, too.

Okay, slightly longer than a couple mins. But it was worth it. And that is literally just a short, comprehensive list – if we include post-punk in the UK, the new wave in general, hardcore and post-hardcore in America, I could probably be here for hours drawing up links between bands and making bold statements about what the greatest albums of all time are
