Walshy, you daft ****. We should tour the English countryside, you and I. Have a brown ale in Newcastle, a parmo in Middlesbrough and a VD in Liverpool!
at the shepherds bush show there was this incident i was actually crossdressing, but this guy mistook me for a person of female folk, he was actually really nice and helpful. it was a smallish show and absolutely packed and i was right near the front, and centre, maybe 4 or so people from the barrier right and tre cool comes out first, on his own, bit weird i thought, arena shows i had been to during the 21st century breakdown tour they played song of the century then they would all run out on stage together but anyways..
tre cool comes out right, says billie joe is sick and can't make it and everyones like ohhhh, then he starts playing All by Myself, "hidden track" on Dookie, much different start to a Green Day show than i'd experienced but worked brilliant. and the crowd for that was totally fine obviously its just a little tre cool ditty like. then Billie and mike DO actually come on stage and they kick right into welcome to paradise and the crowd is getting a bit wild now, and at this point i had long hair down my back, and i didn't tie it back or put it in a ponytail or none of that, big mistake. when the crowd were going nuts i felt like everyone was pulling my hair in different directions it hurt like hell. and at the same time my jeans were falling down so here i am trying to enjoy this epic start to the show and i'm trying to hold my hair down and pulling my trousers up. after a few songs in i'm so desperate for them to throw in a ballad or boulevard of broken dreams or something because i needed a breather. luckily some guy asks if i'm alright, i really wasn't, so he puts his arm around my waist and keeps me in front of him. i didn't realise at this point that he thought i was a girl, i thought he was just being mighty nice.
then i hear him say something to a friend as i'm enjoying a bit of know your enemy, he says "i need to get her out", i wasn't going to say anything to state otherwise. but after 5 or so songs in i was able to get a bit out to the side and enjoy the show without being squashed to death.
later i went to the bar for some much needed water and saw him by the bar and just said thanks. not sure if he realised then i was a guy or not.
it was still an epic show, bunch of at the time new songs, bunch of classics, fan favourites etc. green day don't do bad shows anyway but due to the smaller venue i think it helped. i also lost a contact lense somehow in the chaos of the pit.
