Man, sounds like she was ahead of the curve. But that is the thing with publishers, they're unpredictable, as you say so much shit gets published and loads of good stuff stays overlooked. It's a shame. Either way though, she should try sending it around again, there are probably a bunch of places that'd want it!

Send a few chapters of the manuscript attached, along with a synopsis of the story. Then for the bulk of the email you have to basically say that your novel is really great and gripping without sounding arrogant, then say they're a really great publishing company without sucking up.



...kinda that, anyway. It's like applying for a real important job, I guess. Not that I've actually ever really done that.
