It's a mixture of most of the races.

You can say "I'm American", but it might prompt someone to say "No, I mean specifically". For the sake of the argument, instead of telling them to **** off and mind their own business, I tell them my nationalities.

Also, no, "English" is not the official Language of America, it has no official language and it never will.

At no point did I say America was a younger country then Italy, I just said it was one of the younger countries.

Your reasoning leaves a lot to be desired. You do realise your passport says that you're American, right? But they're wrong because America has no official language? Please explain, because it feels like you've skipped quite a few steps.

So are a lot of countries in Western Europe at this point.

Your point? They're not your nationalities though. They're the nationalities of some of your ancestors.

The reason I said that was to explain that Italy is not a ''starting country'' either. By your logic, ''Italian'' isn't a nationality either.

Also, I don't care what he tells other people. He told me that he was Italian, I told him I take issue with that.

What bothers me are his ridiculous attempts at explaining himself.

Who are you to tell me I shouldn't take issue with something?
I don't care if you take issue with that, I'm going to continue saying it whether it offends you or not, its not a big deal, and you are the only one who takes issue with it, so go on and keep crying about it, or try and act like a tough guy and tell me to "stop".

It won't do anything. I didn't just learn I was Italian, I was told by pretty much all my family, we do have italian cultures in our lives, we do use Italian phrases and such, you have don't have the right to tell me what I can and can't say.

Most Americans are aware that they should say they are American when talking to Europeans, cause saying they are Irish or Italian is just ridiculous.

When Americans talk to each other they are probably more interested in whatever heritage the person they are talking to has completely nothing to do with anymore, so the answer "I'm Italian" may be acceptable, albeit still incorrect.

Also the official language is not the basis of nationality. Belgium for example has three official languages, none of them Belgian, cause that doesn't exist.

You're American. Most Americans show the same behaviour as you. Obviously they wouldn't be offended by that. Like I said, go to Ireland and tell them you're Irish. You'll probably get a similar reaction.

This. Also, how am I acting like a tough guy or crying? Just because I disagree with you? Showing your tender age again, kid.

Again, when you speak to an American and you say you're Italian, that's fine, because when an American asks you ''What are you?'', they're obviously asking for your heritage.

But don't tell a European you're one of them, while you're not. It's that simple.

It's like me telling a black man that I'm black, because the cradle of the human race was in Africa.

I will.

Oh, no, if I generalize myself as Italian, thats a no-no, but if you generalize all Americans as the same behaviour as me, thats okay. Hypocrite.

You are just saying random things, hoping some of it will make sense, innit?

Seriously, think before you post.

Do you really not see a difference between actual Italians and second or third or fourth generation Americans with Italian heritage?

I don't think this is as much about what he actually sees as it is about what he wants to see/believe.

I see the difference, I just think they have just as much right to be called Italian as the people who experience and lived in that culture.
