It sounds a lot like what happened to a friend of mine earlier this year, she has depression, and her work environment was extremely toxic (all her coworkers were stressed and miserable etc)
she ended up taking sick leave because of how it was affecting her mental health
and then after a few days they started making demands, she needed to go a doctor and bring a note, come in for a meeting, they threatened to fire her so she quit
