It costs a lot to properly self-publish (i.e. printing actual books), and without the money to fund the marketing, self-publishing an e-book is basically just uploading the book to the internet. Nobody would find it, and often publishers won't take self-published works, so I'd have no way back.
I don't even know if there are that many publishing agents in the UK or at least ones that would consider my novel based on genre
Thanks Hums, and I will, don't you worry
Still have a couple of places to hear back from, then I'll send it to another set of agents I guess. Don't want to send it to too many at once. Don't know why. Fear of rejection? Possibly
A couple buddies of mine self published their first novel. Started with ebook but had physical copies a month later. They've sold a couple hundred now just from word of mouth.
That's impressive, major props to them. What kind of a book is it?
But yeah, as for networking, I'm so inept that posting pretty anything on Facebook is a no-go for me. Besides, I only have a hundred-odd people on there. I've sent my novel to all the people who've been interested in it, or offered to send it to anyone I thought would be interested. Aaaaand how many have read it?
None. Aside from my parents and this one friend I had, who is not a friend any more (due to totally unrelated circumstances).
Tbh when you pour your heart and effort into something and even your best and/or lifelong friends can't be bothered to read it then what the **** are the chances of anybody else caring?
I should probably give up already, it's a dying art.
See, I totally respect this: you know you won't end up reading it and have the decency not to get my hopes up. This is probably what everyone else is like, but they say they really want to read it and will like totally start reading it next week, but they won't.
