Well yeah, half of it is directly taken from various Sergio Leone films. The score is mostly Morricone pieces, again taken directly from various Western films.

But a lot the film takes on the characteristics of a revenge flick, regardless of genre. Westerns, as a genre, haven't got many unique characteristics outside of location, costume, and character types. So yeah, it's a western, as much as it looks like one and that. I guess it could be seen as a post-modern Western, subverting genre conventions whilst drawing attention to itself and its content.

I can go on, if you like. I kind of study and write about this shit all week.
