You know what would make for an interesting twist? If Bruce found out that a young Joker was somehow (indirectly) responsible for the murder of his parents. And if that didn't push him over the edge, nothing will.

I doubt such a twist will ever appear in the comics, seeing how it was already played out in the 1989 film.
