That's what my fanboyism thought too, but then I took a second look at it and paused it, Cap was holding the shield during the punch.

So it wasn't his fist, but the shield edge.

I wouldn't say poor Jason.

Jason was still the leader, and it was retconned to show that he literally gave Tommy the leadership mantle because he trusted him with it when he left to be an ambassador at the peace conference.

He beat Tommy in several different areas: He upstaged him hand 2 hand in normal form, he beat him when Tommy was massively amped by Rita's Darkness Sword, and he beat him using his T.Rex Zord against the Dragonzord, and when they were trying to get around Titanus, Jason was acknowledged as the physically stronger of the two. He also spiked the Zeo ratings majorly when he came back as the Gold Ranger.

He also upstaged him in the Forever Red episode, where he came back and made all the other Red Rangers look second rate. They were teaming up in pairs on single baddies, Tommy included, Jason said phuck that, and was whooping up on the leader by himself.
