Well let me clarify what I meant.
When they are actually on topic. Which, to be fair, is quite often considering how much they very well COULD go sour.

Unfortuneatley there seems to be a few members particular to the GDF who dedicate their very existance to throwing debates off topic.

Actually that's not so paradoxical at all - I was on a debating team back in High School, and that's often where victory lay - getting the best and most relevant facts to the argument, and then presenting them in a convincing, comprehensive, coherent way with a suitable amount of conviction.
Debates, especially good debates, are more then a sterile procedure and presentation of dry fact combined with a oblivious and/or heated pig headiness - they are stylistic, intelligent and dynamic. Skilled, charismatic, entertaining, insightful. Actually not only are good debates like this, but so to are good debaters, as really a good debater makes a good debate.
I never could stand those times when the opposing team took a "nah, nah, nah, nah" approach to proceedings, never giving an actual rebuttal, basically they would just go "well, everything the opposing team said is wrong because we are right." Oh yeah? Show us HOW we are wrong! Show us WHY you are right! Actually debate INSTEAD of just giving a speech you fools! Deal with what we are saying, just as we are dealing with what you're saying! Of course as annoying as they were, they were also kind of fun - such teams usually went down with such ease it was cruel. Just, but cruel. Teams like this were usually the ones from primarily physical sports orientated schools, or hard line Christian schools.
Heh, I was in the debate team in high school too, and I won most of the debates I was in because I had spent so much time researching my topic that I was always more or less able to rebutt anything said....in fact, I usually had more info than I was able to say in the time limit. One of my favorite memories from a debate tournament was this one in my second year of high school...one of the schools we were against was one of the best high schools in the country, they had about 50 students on their team, we had seven or eight....and we completely slaughtered them

I see what you are trying to say, but generally good debaters post in good debates, and poor debaters post in poor debates.
Although the CBvsF has a few excellent debators, I feel the the GDF has more, and better, debaters in it's ranks.
Due to the high number of members joining comic versus forums, and are posting there, you have a wide variety of audiences... you have the 13 year old who just likes wolverine, and you have those, who truely can debate.
Here however, it is usually unlikely to find someone to join, JUST to post trash in the GDF forum... in places like the off topic and comic versus, its all too common.

We have plenty of people who just post trash in the GDF. That fact does not affect the belief that there are more capable debaters in this forum than in the CBvsF.

The VS forum has more persistant debaters, not better. Some of the debates there are probably longer than here but the quality within is vastly inferior.
Whob is the closest to what the VS forum debaters are like, and he's constantly handled in this forum.

You'd have to look at the subject matter again and the crowds that it attracts. I've already agreed that the debates here are better.

Actually I'd say that the GDF has the best debators for the people who debate in the GDF forum, the same with comics. I also have found nice debates in religon, thanks to evil dead.
