Anyway, I would like to add something, again, while we're on the subject of 'race'.

There is just no such thing as race in humans. WE don't have sub-races or subspecies. Skin pigmentation does not constitute as a difference in race.
It doesn't do so in any other animal, and I don't get why it should in humans.

You don't get why it exists...so you say "There is just no such thing as race in humans."? That strikes me as quite ignorant.

Has it truly got to the point of being racially sensitive that you would now have us all say we're the same race? If you want to be anal, yes the human race. That's a species.

There are over 450 species of shark. They're fish, all of them. So does that mean they're not different? Because if someone is African and someone else is English, it doesn't matter? We're the same?

I'm not one to judge race, I have friends from all different races and religions, but the fact is...there's a difference between being pro-equality because it's right, and being pro-equality to the point that you remove everyone's birth given right to be different.

I'm certain that in saying "We're the same", you mean well. Infact I'd say that's a fact, but that's selfish. That's Bono of U2. "Look at how much good I'm doing. Look, I want you all to see, hence the cameras being here, but I really am doing it for selfless reasons."

I'm pretty sure if you went to an Aboriginal tribesman and said "We're the same" he'd be pretty offended.

There is no such thing, it's a social construct.

Last I checked humans from different "RACES" can interbreed so yeah were the same species maybe different breeds but same species.

a) If you actually care to pick up a contemporary book regarding 'race' you will see that the term is no longer used due to the reasosn I mentioned above. Instead of 'race' word 'ethnicity' is used, as this term as been challeneged for a while now

b) Term 'race' came into play when a middle class white western men decided that Black people are a SUB-RACE of White people.

quote:
Alan R. Templeton, Ph.D., professor of biology in Arts and Sciences at Washington University, has analyzed DNA from global human populations that reveal the patterns of human evolution over the past one million years. He shows that while there is plenty of genetic variation in humans, most of the variation is individual variation. While between-population variation exists, it is either too small, which is a quantitative variation, or it is not the right qualitative type of variation -- it does not mark historical sublineages of humanity

'Race' is a socialy constructed idea. It does NOT exist in humans.

Well, besides me thinking that someone shat in his orange juice this morning, I think he is referring to people like DB, who is a classical homophobe while being black. Which is indeed funny since well....you can hide your sexual orientation but not your skin colour. So if DB can keep talking about homosexuals not having the same rights, white people should have the right to talk about black people not having the same rights. But I can't speak for him....although I did....weird.

So because "ONE" black guy is a homophobes, blacks should be treated as second class citizens laughing what a stupid analogy.

No longer used. Yes.

There are many words that were used during my father's day, now no longer used. It doesn't mean they don't exist. It just isn't used. There is a difference. A very clear one.

So basically, same bottle, different label. Essentially you're arguing a silly point.

There's also a difference between not liking why something exists, and denying that it exists.

The term "race" came about in a negative way, fine. That doesn't erase the fact that it could easily be used in a neutral way. Because we aren't actually all the same are we? We are a single species with many different types of human in that species. Like any other animal. I use the term "race", not in the same negative way as those white western men, but in the exact same way as ethnicity is used, and contrary to your blinkered belief, it's as applicable.

If you'd bothered to pay attention to the world, you'd know that.

So what proof do you have that people of another "race" are different species?

I was not referring to you, so why did you quote me?

What proof do you have that I said they were a different species, and not a variation and different type of the same species (human)?

What proof do you have of that? I'm guessing none, but shucks, indulge me.

(Save yourself the reply, I never said they were a different species. For further details, see: My posts.)

Maybe it's when you used that whole "450 species of shark" analogy.

Yeah, and read the rest.

The part where I said "There are over 450 species of shark. They're fish, all of them. So does that mean they're not different?"

It solves so much when you read what's there, not what you want.

They're all one type of animal. We're all human. Does that mean those sharks are all the same, because they are the same type of animal? No, there are many different kinds of that animal. Like there are many different variations of human.

Either way, the idea that we are all the same is taking "equality" a tad too far.

Sorry but comparing different species and different variations is a bad comparison. These species of shark are not the same, that's like me saying a tiger and a lion are the same because their both cats, they're clearly different species.

It may be to you, but it's an extremely clear one. The fact that you chose to dive right past the whole is where the problem lies.

Just because we can all be referred to as the human race, it doesn't mean we're the same. We're not. I'm not saying we're all different species.

Yeah...of cat.

I'm not saying Africans are a different species of human, I'm saying they're just different humans to white Americans or Japanese people or South American people or any human that isn't African. It's not molecular biology, it's a post made up of text that illustrates a simple point.

The point: How silly the point is that "We're the same." Stupidness.

We are all the same, but we are also different.
Race is a social construct, supported by generalizations. when someone is different from that said stereotype, people attack them saying that they are not acting like their race, It's stupid.

Say it like this:

"We're the same species, but we are all different variations of that species. Ergo, we're not all the same."

Because that's how it is. Every human on Earth has one commonality then, we're human. We have more differences than we have commonalities, so where this warped view of "We're the same" come from is a bit odd.

You're not the same as me. I'm not the same as you. If you think we're alike enough to be "same" because we share a species, then you're beyond help. The same goes for most humans.

So basically, you left the word "species" off.

"We're all the same...species."

Because that's as far as it goes.
