Wait, it is just a fact that all humans living today are of the same species...namely Homo Sapiens.

But there are variations in us which are usually referred to as "race".

Wrong, we have more then "ONE" commonality, we all have similar needs.

I get you problem is race isn't used correctly, when people say statements like "He's acting white or He's acting black" then it get's really stupid.

Yes, but that doesn't erase what I said.

Ok, we're all human. This was known. Are we all the same because of that? No, we're not.

Reminds me of that South Park episode where Stan's dad is an alcoholic and says to a girl with elephantisis "We're the same...you and I."

I use race in the same way people use ethnicity. I use it in no harmful way, and it's as applicable. So to say it doesn't exist just because THE WORD was attached under negative circumstances, doesn't mean it can't be used neutrally and be completely applicable.

It can be.

This whole argument reminds me of a Bob Dylan song. Namely "I Shall Be Free No.10 "

I'm just average, common too
I'm just like him, the same as you
I'm everybody's brother and son
I ain't different from anyone
It ain't no use a-talking to me
It's just the same as talking to you.

They have dark skin? (I'm kidding, I noticed you have a problem with jokes.)

Race, when we're not being anal, is accepted by many people of many races/ethnicities (for you) to be ok to use. I know what I mean by it, everyone else knows what I mean by it.

None of my friends that are "black", chinese, indian, vietnamese, west indian or otherwise have had any problem with it.

Why do you? Because "technically" it isn't "right"? Did you notice that getting into arguments over the term "race" being technically/anally right or wrong causes more problems than letting someone use the term when they mean no harm, and have caused no offense to anyone of any race?

Fair enough, race may not be the absolute correct definitive clear term. It's not "wrong" in any moral sense, and it's acceptable by many people's standards.

The bottom line is: We're not all the same outside of species. We're not, we are all different people. Fact.

Really? I can.

It's not "Chinese". "Chinese" is a nationality. There is a correct term for it but I am not sure. It's not Asian I think, but that comes closer. Also, races are Black (Negro), Caucasian, Slav.....

Here's my point (also answering your question): If some who is Asian (there you go) and from China, call themselves "Chinese", would you walk up to them and tell them to stop saying it, because it's degrading to Asians?

It's one of those things that, despite being technically/anally wrong, it's not causing cancer is it? We all know what is meant, 9 times out of 10, by someone saying "race". So...what is the point of going into it when even the different ethnicities being referred to, aren't bothered by it?

"Because it's wrong" I guess. Fine, but if I ask someone if they are Chinese, and they are an Asian and from China, what do you think the odds are that they'll say "Hey now. Chinese isn't a race, infact...you should say 'ethnicity'. I am Asian, not Chinese. So please don't refer to me as such." when compared to the chances that they'll say "Yeah, I am."?

He can call himself whatever he wants, I just think race is stupid.

Chinese is a nationality, and they'll agree because it's a social construct.

As a social constuct, it's a very stupid way to characterize people.
It's mostly used negativley.

Why?

Well, I guess, but jsut because it is often used negatively doesn't mean that it isn't an actual term.

That the person is black?

We can go on if you want:

What does the haircolour of a person tell you?
What does the birth date of a person tell you?
What does the eye colour of a person tell you?
What does the birthplace of a person tell you

Heck, what doe the NAME of a person tell you?
