It was based on a model of the Mauser, actually. The C96 had been around since World War I.
The E11 blaster rifle was made from the Sterling, a British submachine gun. That wasn't used by the Brits until the 1950's, though.
The MG34 makes an appearance as an Imperial repeater, too.

And so far, the only notable gun in the PT that is based on a real gun is the Royal Guard's repeaters, based on the Calico SMG employed by the USA today. They also use Olympic Free Pistols, which are bibi guns, not bullet-using.
