Ricky Hatton wants a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr., considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. It looks like he might get his wish.

Ricky Hatton cannot fight. He throws one punch at a time and then holds. Hatton is the most overrated fighter of the last 25 years.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather said Tuesday he will come out of retirement to put Hatton in his place.

"I was retired but I'll sign to fight Hatton right now. I've tried to let the things he said about me slide by, but now he's 'dissing' me on national TV and I want to shut him up. I've never wanted to hurt an opponent like I do Hatton.

"Ricky Hatton cannot fight. He throws one punch at a time and then holds. Hatton is the most overrated fighter of the last 25 years."

Hatton's one-punch knockout win Saturday night over Jose Luis Castillo to retain his world junior welterweight championship just might have been the breakthrough the British fighter needed to convince fans outside his native country that he is the real thing at 140 pounds.

Like Mayweather, Hatton is undefeated. Unlike Mayweather, he fights in a wild, all-out style that should prove popular as he continues his campaign in the United States.

"There was more action in the four rounds of this fight than Floyd showed in his entire career," Hatton said.

Mayweather announced his retirement after beating Oscar De La Hoya last month.

Hatton's father, Ray, said that his son is ready to face Mayweather -- anywhere.

"We're up for the fight, you've got to be up for a fight like that," Ray Hatton told Radio Five Live in the United Kingdom. "But it doesn't always end with the two fighters. There tends to be a few people getting in between.

"Ricky is chomping at the bit. I've spoken to him a little bit before all this came out and he said it's a no-brainer. It's a definite yes.

"Ricky will fight him anywhere -- that's the difference between him and Floyd, who wants it on home turf."

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's manager, said a fight could happen in the fall.

"Hatton's trying to promote himself off Floyd's name and he [Mayweather] will kick his butt. Floyd told me he wants to get the deal on," Ellerbe said, according to the Guardian newspaper. "Hatton [insulted] Floyd [on television]. But that's OK, he's had his opportunity to talk. Now all he has to do is to sign a contract and we can get this done. We can have it this year, in the fall. We don't need to wait."

yeah...i read that article this morning...the hype is already beginning which hopefully means the fight will happen but who knows...so much in boxing depends on promoters and tv rights etc...

if its at wembley i'll be going...Vegas means probably not but if funds allow then hopefully

example, not boxing but it's still relevant since both are contact sports.

Randy Couture
http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/...p?FighterID=166

vs

Tim Sylvia
http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/...?FighterID=1061

Couture is obviously the better fighter and recently defeated Tim Sylvia.

Records dont mean shit, they just display which fighters the individual has defeated.

hatton beat castillo...yet you two are still claiming castillo to be the better fighter so if the records dont mean anything...and the fact that hatton directly beat castillo (and at no point looked like that would change) then there's just blatent bias against Hatton, it would seem

cant say i follow cage fighting...so i couldn't comment on the fighters you mention.

You do realize that Castillo hasn't looked impressive since the first Corales fight. So Hatton beating him isn't saying much and add to fact that he quit it means even less.

i'm not taking anything away from Hatton, he's a good fighter, i just dont think he's ready for Mayweather.

so why was he still ranked the no 1 contender (and still is) by 2 boxing organisations?

hatton didn't look impressive againt urango or collazo...still won the fights...and winning when not on your best form shows an even higher degree of ability

i personally think that mayweather, like jones jnr, will get carried away in his own hype...he's already taking to music promotion and playing the celebrity...its the downfall of fighters...when they think their abilities take them into other areas...just because of their own hype....jones started taking film roles in the matrix and got lax and got beat...lennox lewis suffered a defeat at the point when he thought he was invincible because he never bothered to train properly

one thing about hatton is he is resolutely determined to stay down to earth...this is noticable in his lifestyle...he still lives near to his parents in a very modest house...doesn't splash his wealth

but he does know how to tempt and taunt a fighter into the ring...or so it would seem

Do you know anything about boxing at all? Because your sounding like someone that doesn't know what there talking about. Ranking doesn't mean shit. You can't even begin to count how many boxing organizations exist any one of them would have me as the number 1 contender if there was money to be made tommorow. That logic does not work in boxing. The only way ta gauge boxers who they fight and if they fight them at there best, period. Hatton has not fought anybody at there best and lost a fight the fight to Callazo which is why he had to go back to 140. PBF >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>RJJ, PBF has all of the fundamental while Roy Jones was getting by on his athletisism. Just because Hatton is from Manchester doesn't mean he is good. Not saying that a real deal boxer can't come out of Manchester it's just that Hatton is not one.

I would not have had a problem with that at all. As it stands right now Hatton has not earned the shot that he is getting.

i love the fact that you keep bringing up this "i dont know anything about boxing" horse shit...when clearly you're talking out of your ass...

Hatton is undefeated...so where this loss to Collazo comes from i have no idea

as for Hatton being from Manchester...i couldn't care less...in fact..him being English is more of a reason for me to dislike him than the other way around...because i'm Scottish

results will and are telling...i just wonder what your excuse will be if and when Hatton puts Cotto, Mayweather or whoever on their ass

"blah blah had a bad fight"

i can see it coming a mile off

and for the 2nd time lets look back at the evidence for your vast knowledge about boxing

quote:
Hatton is bum and Castillo is going to dismantle him.

i rest my case

Everytime you post on this subject it shows your biased and lack of knowledge in boxing. I'm not the only one that sees it either. You would get laughed off of any real boxing website such as boxingtalk.com. LOL

really dont know where you keep getting this bias issue from either...i've explained clearly enough

i think we can both agree that this isn't going anywhere and should move on

so...as as i said earlier

Hopkins v Wright

should both fighters have given up before now cause they are both getting on...

although wright did beat De la hoya back in 2004 he has been beaten twice by Taylor and had a victory over Antonio Tarver

Hopkins got a draw last year against Taylor last year also...

could be good...i know the bookies are giving best odds on it going the distance and very long odds on either fighter winning by KO in any round

Ok I was going to give it a rest but Wright has never fought DLH. B-Hop was the one that beat him and Wright is the one that had a draw with Taylor. Taylor beat B-Hop twice. This post right here validates everything I said ealier. Thanx buddy.

so then why did you say that castillo was gonna win? kinda retarded there. you clearly stated that castillo would win, suggesting that he isnt washed up like you are NOW making him out to be

Granted I made a mistake making a prediction, but my reasons where just. Emanuel Steward who is a professional trainor agreed with me and thought that Castillo would win untill he saw the first round. Just because you have boxing knowledge doesn't mean that your going to get every prediction right. Where still just human with boxing knowledge. My beef with Hatton is that he hasn't fought anybody worth noting when they where at there best and is barely squeeking by "b" level opposition.
