But that's a pretty big thing, and they have Zito, who has been one of the most dominate lefties in the past 5 years, so being they are an open divisions, with a dominate pitcher, that would be two things going for them.

They'll win the division now, because of Barry Zito, but I don't know if Barry Bonds can break the record or if will even count later on down the road.

One pitcher can't win a division for you, especially in a division full of teams with better rotations(same thing with Minny). AZ has: Webb, Johnson. LA has: Schmidt, Lowe, Penny. SD has: Maddux, Peavy, Young, Wells. Let's say Zito wins 20 games (which he won't), they will not have another pitcher win more than 14 games. PLUS, the have no offense. Don't even let me get started on that. Sorry, but the Giants won't win the Division or make the play-offs.

Plus Zito hasn't even been that good lately.

I know he hasn't.... but i'm giving him AND the Giants the benefit of the doubt.

He's been good, overpriced, but still good. Out of all the pitchers that were mentioned the only one who is really reliable is Schmidt, every other pitcher is past there prime, and although they have had decent seasons in the past, they have also had mediocre seasons at best in the past. The pitching just proves that the NL West hasn't changed, and is going to be just as unpredictable as it is every year. I never said Zito was going to get them in the playoffs, but to say the Giants have no chance in a wide open division is premature. Almost every year the projected team that is suppose to come out of the NL West doesn't.

Very true. I agree with everything but the whole "every other pitcher is past their prime" statement. Young from the Padres and Webb from AZ are not past their primes, and I didn't even mention LA's Billingsly. There are arms left in the West. The main reason I believe the Giants won't make it is the hitting. Will they have enough run support when their best pitcher's ERA will be in the high 3's maybe low 4's?

True, I was being pretty broad when I was talking about the pitching, I should have said "most of the pitchers mentioned are past there prime." You have a valid point about the hitting, but with the exception of the Dodgers(and even they lost Drew), most of the NL West teams lineups don't really scare anyone.

LOL, I hated the Braves while they were the best team in baseball too... I appreciate the sentiments, but don't get carried away. They're just in the top 5 in baseball for now. cool

Can't wait. I really think the Phillies will be good this year, especially if Burrell does better than normal.
