Fitch definitely won; he got gypped big time. He was dominating BJ for like the entire last 3 minutes of the fight; just ground-&-pounding the shit out of him. I mean, how did the judges not see it? He was the old guy, future Hall-of-Famer, and the crowd favorite, as well as the spread/stat favorite. So maybe all those factors helped him squeak by with a majority draw. Still a travesty, though; Fitch clearly won.
And Bisping only won because of that illegal knee. He did it totally on purpose. The man risked getting a DQ because he knew he couldn't dominate Rivera if he was fresh, so he did a shameful and blatant illegal move to even his odds. The doc should've just declared a DQ. It was beyond an NC, because it was so obviously intentional.

Fitch dominated the last round, but I guess the judges saw round 1 as Bj's and round two a draw.
It was a majority draw though, so one of the judges did think Fitch won.
I actually think Bisping had a slight upperhand even before his illegal knee. That dude has actually developed some pretty good takedowns. I like Bisping's fighting style, but he can be a big douche sometimes.
Also, bring Pride rules back please(possibly plus elbows). No knees to the head of grounded opponents is stupid.
I've always hated the concept of ties/draws in sports. They're common in soccer, boxing and MMA, and I think they make the whole thing less enjoyable, sometimes even a total let-down. Soccer at least has shoot-outs, and MMA needs some kind of sudden death to avoid draws like the travesty of Penn vs Fitch.
The powers-that-be who govern and make the rules of UFC/MMA should put their heads together and come up with some kind of tie-breaker.
I think knees to the heads of grounded opponents is fine as long they're legal. And Bisping obviously used it to his advantage. I also have no problem with headbutts, and think its dumb that they're illegal in just about every MMA promotion.
Headbutts, soccer kicks and downward elbows should all be legal in my opinion.
Damn. You're right. Rd 3 was 10-8 Fitch with 28-28 total. Bj was given RD 1 and 2.
Unless Bj was given RD 1 with 10-8.
I can see how that might ruin it for some.
The judges might award a tie in the overtime round.
I agree. Bisping disobeyed the rules and shouldn't be praised for that. I also agree that knees/kicks/stomps on grounded opponents should be legal all around. They watered down the sport to please some people who probably don't even watch it. K-1's been neutered too. People wonder why martial arts get diluted over time, but it's crap like this that does it.
Same stuff that leads to aerobic kickboxing and strip mall "krotty." I'm exaggerating a bit, but it's still annoying.
