Yeah its forced...youre supposed to believe Anakin and Obi are pals who have been through a lot BUT its more like Lucas saying YOU know these two are friends from Star Wars Lore..heres some chummy dialogue to clarify that...NEXT!!
Anakins "i have a bad feeling about this" moment at the arena in Clones is another bad one for me.
Its delivered as if hes seen the OT and quoting from it!!!
Its the same thing in SITH with the "heres where the fun begins " quote
Its almost like someone saying "Garlic Bread?" " is he having a laugh ?" or "Im a lady!!!" in your local student bar.
(apologies to non UK residents for the use of 3 catchphrases from Uk comedians there)
Yeah I know what you mean. That "This is where the fun begins" kinda shows Lucas's lack of imagination. I know he'll clarify it that he likes recurring themes, like the old myths had, but he seems to mistaken that for repeating yourself. He did that an AWFUL lot in the PT. Just like the chopping off of Anakin's hand AND Mace's hands AND Luke's... Now Anakin and Luke I can understand, especially from teh ROTJ point of view. But Mace???!!! He should have Anakin kill Mace, he had plenty of reason for that. That old a$$holishness by Mace since TPM should have been plenty of motivation for Anakin to wipe him out.
Gender: Male Location: Impacting nations and generations
Agreed.
Besides better fighting and editing of the 3 Jedi being cut down, I would have wanted palps to be defeated and Anakin step in and duel with Mace, completly PWNing him, and stab him straight thru the chest, as happened to qui-gon.
Thematic repetitions are good, it has a kinda predestination feel about them. But too many make them sort of com[puslary, too many make it lose their power. So you'd have to dose it carefully and only repeat the ones you really need. Then it brings out the point and it works better emotionally. But so many, even irrelevant, repetitions just seem to indicate a lack of imagination, as if he ran out of ideas for 6 episodes or something.
Verbal repititions tend to be not as subtle or metaphoric as the visual ones, and when you pick up on them after a couple times it gets really annoying (especially the way Lucas does it...I mean that's just lazy writing I think..."we need something here, oh how about 'I got a bad feeling about this'...that's good...and symbolic!")
The Prequels as a whole or the repetitions?
Dude im seriously thinking of pretending the prequels never existed.
Empire was on Sky Movies last night so i sat and watched it for half an hour(im doing a bit of repetition myself here)
As i watched Han and Leias little chit chat in the Falcon about Bespin,Lando etc it hit me how real and natural it was and how far way it was from anything delivered in The Prequels....sure it was a litlle dialogue scene and not that important but it was far more satisfying than ANYTHING i saw in Clones the previous night.....i even appreciate the Frank Oz Yoda puppet even more so now than ever.
Mind you who am i to talk...i quite like the whole Vader/Padmes dead "NOOOO!!!!" bit in SITH...but i thinks thats probably to do with it being new Vader footage and having to waiting 22 years for it.
Loving my Letterbox Original Discs......give me "BRING MY SHUTTLE" and Lapti Nek anyday!!!
I agree about sucj scenes in ESb. It made us feel it was real. Niot just the acting but the whole approach of the OT: the slight documentary style of ANH (new at the time), the plain style of filming, the natural acting (especially in ESB), the used future (crappy falcon) style - everything was focussed on grounding SW in a real world.
In the PT, while stunningly looking, it's all a bit fake.
