Arabs, brought NOTHING to their expansion. All accumulated ancient knowledge of Persia, Babylon, Egypt and India fell into their hands when they invaded.

While I know you are passionate about your view that Islam should be condemned far more then it is, that is no reason to misconstrue posts. Where exactly do I imply that Islam brought about education? Or for that matter development?

If I am not mistaken I expressed the historical accurate and accepted view that following the fracturing of the West Roman Empire, and with the East Roman Empire turning its attentions to other things things that the Islamic nations were essentially the most educated, once they were established, thanks to the wealth of established knowledge they were able to draw on. And for that matter you make it sound distasteful that they accumulated the knowledge of other nations that ended up being assimilated - when exactly has that not been the case? Hell, you could say that about the children of today - the majority of them are accumulating and assimilating the knowledge others formulated - are they not?

And ultimately that is ahistorical anyway - do you know the Abbasids? Do you think there is a reason Arab doctors were so popular with the nobility even in the west? It is not accurate to say "Arabs brought nothing to their expansion." Especially as that is not what I was saying. The Islamic Caliphates, prior to the Turkish take over, most certainly were notable in fields such as the sciences and philosophy. They did not just produce religious texts. I suggest you read up on the Abbasid and their percieved golden age, and you will see they most certainly didn't just grow fat on the works of ancient Greeks and Indians.

I suggest at the very least you should do what one of my High School History teachers has us do while studying the Crusades - do a comparative chart of the things the west took back with them from the East. You will find it was a lot. And also - are you saying the preservation and study of ancient texts is not important? That the Islamic Caliphates don't deserve to be considered educated because they studied and spread Aristotle rather then coming up with their own version?

quote:
Middle East and Asia were always ahead of times then the West.

And that disproves what I said... how? It doesn't. In High School I came fifth out of about 70 students year 10 in terms of academics. Now if the four before me had been killing in a freak lab accident, or had all moved away would I still be considered fifth, or would I have suddenly found myself the dux? Are you saying it is wrong to say "following the disintegration of the West Roman Empire the Eastern Islamic nations were essentially the most advanced and educated" is wrong because they were always advanced? Well.... no, I can't say that is logical.

quote:
There was no love for the knowledge or the truth within Islamic invadors.
For example, In attacking Iran, one of the most infamous acts of the Arab invaders was to burn Iranian libraries full of centuries of collected knowledge. The Islamic logic to justify this vandalism was that if this Iranian knowledge agreed with the Qur'an, then it was superfluous and if it contradicted the Qur'an, then such books should be destroyed. An unbeatable argument!

An unbeatable argument only when it is presented like that.

You reference "Islamic Invaders" - well it is a good thing the educational, cultural, scientific and academic achievements of a nation or culture are decided upon by their actions during war, or invasion. My, I wonder how the Roman Empire would look in history if we, you know, actually ignored its educational, cultural, scientific and academic achievements and just judged it based upon how they were fighting. Or the US - let us ignore everything else they have doen and base our opinions of the US upon their invasion of Iraq.

Because that is essentially what you are doing there - not judging the actual Islamic nations, just saying what the Arab invaders were doing. They burnt down libraries, and a universities as well, along with various other buildings. This was not part of a broad policy though, was it? They did not invade the near death Sassanid Empire with some sort of academic scorched earth policy. If anything that conflicts with you above - "All accumulated ancient knowledge of Persia..."

So did Islam assimilate it or where they burning it for conflicting with the Qur'an? Especially since the action you refer to occurred during a war. The Romans were burnt down government buildings... were Romans in fact anarchists who wanted to destroy all governments? Or is it that such things tend to happen in war?

quote:
At the end of 10th century, famous theologian and a perfect Muslim al-Ghazali brought back the madness of Islam, the real Islam that was practiced by the founder of the religion. In his book, “The destruction of philosophy” – al-Ghazali challenged the process of reasoning because it cannot prove the reality of Allah.

This is familiar. Tell me, why is it that there can be Jews and Christians and Hindus etc who believe that they are true in views that are racists or just bad, and that the only way to be a true Christian or Hindu is to be like that, yet that is just an example of the profusion of interpretations that exist in such religions and is not proof Christianity or Hebrew is irrideemably racist or violant, yet the fact there are Muslims who do the same thing is somehow proof "real Islam as practiced by the founder" - religion, Islam whatever - it is what its followers make it.

So there were Muslims, famous ones, who had different ideas to others. Shocking. It would probably be more shocking if there were not figures such as that in every religion alive today. Not all might have been as famous certainly, but they believe they are right, they believe they are true in their God/gods. Why this is relevant to the fact "they (the Islamic Empires) were pretty much the most educated when it mattered is beyond me."

If anything all you are showing is that Islam, like any faith, has those in it who think differently. Be they Ammish or al-Ghazali

[quote][b]Middle East, North Africa, India..etc. were not ''educated when it really mattered'', they were ALWAYS educated at a standard rarely riveled by the West.

And once again - your post seems to have been a rebuttal to what I posted, but on closer inspection it doesn't rebut anything. The fact is they were educated when it really mattered. If the Islamic empires had not existed when they had the west and ultimately the world at large would have developed far slower then it did. The Islamic Caliphates preserved a great deal of knowledge, they pushed ahead in some areas, and they spread a great deal of it.

So the East was always educated... and? The fact is it was still the most educated when it mattered - in a time when so much more might have been lost then was. When some nations had to try and advance in certain areas while a great many others wallowed in religious angst over the fall of West Rome, in a time of war, fading powers and others. Tell me how:

"They were the most educated when it counts"

is truly different from:

"No, the East was always educated"

They survived the fall of the west, and remained educated, and it was exactly when it was needed.

Millions of people in the world hate gays. It is not an Islamic problem.

People judge Muslims harshly because they are ignorant and suck up propoganda.

Exactly. But we all know how Muslims are just simply the scourge of the world, so we'll just ignore rationality and moderate viewpoints.

I [NEVER had a "good" perception of Islam. I simply thought Muslims were victims of Hatred and false judgement.

But now that I see how closed minded your religion is, and how much conflict is caused by Islam, I could care less who discriminates against your people any further.

What if the Angel comes, and you tell him, and he tells you you were wrong? That Jesus was the son of God? That Mohammed was a fraud? That you will be punished like all the non-believers? What will you do then? You will have lost the 80 years you had for free on this earth and you will lose the eternity you wanted. What then?

People who perceive followers of Islam to all be the same and commit suicide bombings are absolute idiots. Islam is the second most popular religion in the world, if they were all that extreme then no body would stand a chance. The word extremists means something, pay attention to it.
