14-? years ago: Jack joins EITC captaining the Wicked Wench, a merchant ship.
13 years ago: Jack refuses to carry slaves. He sets them free. When he returns, Beckett brands him a pirate and sinks his ship.
Jack visits Tia, who sends him to Davy Jones for help. With nothing to live for, Jack makes a bargain with Davy Jones, who raises his ship. Jack and Barbossa rename ship Black Pearl. it is also assumed that at this time Jack has a falling out with his father.
12-11 years ago: Jack and Barbossa pillage, plunder, and otherwise pirate their way across the caribbean. Near the end of these two years, Jack obtains the compass from Tia Dalma, which he knows can lead him to Isle de Muerta.
10 1/2 years ago: Jack and Barbossa go to Tortuga to pick up a crew, in order to go after the treasure of Isle de Muerta. Barbossa and crew mutiny Jack on an island and find the treasure themselves, becoming cursed.
10 years ago: Black pearl attacks the merchant ship Will is aboard. Liz and father come over from England, picking up Will on the way.
9-? years ago: Jack meets Gibbs, who becomes a pirate. Lots of adventures occur.

That's what I still don't get. If DMC is about a year or more after COTBP, why did Beckett wait so long to arrest them? Was it just then that he knew Jack had the compass and it was even worth arresting these two because they would be able to get it from him?

Once again i ask this question: What did Jack do in the time between COTBP and DMC? And how the heck did the MONKEY end up with them if at the end of COTBP he(monkey) was still with Barbossa? i mean if Tia found Barbossa and brought him back from the dead wouldnt she have found the Monkey with Barbossa? I dont know what do u ladies think?
somehow, Beckett got word that Jack was out and about the caribbean, up to no good.
Beckett has probably been recently commissioned to go to Port Royal in a while, to bring the EITC there and establish a sort of headquarters for the Caribbean there.
Beckett sees this as an oppurtunity to begin working on his life goal, to try and take over the world.
So he knows Governor Swann is there. He starts looking for dirt. What does he find? Jack Sparrow was hanging out in Port Royal at one point, and sentenced to death but escaped!!!
Ah ha! Thinks our clever short villian. I can blame this escape on someone and blackmail the hell out of them.
He does some more digging. Governor Swann has a daughter... and whats this? The daughter gallavanted about the caribbean with Captain Jack Sparrow!! Well, Beckett knows Jack only too well. She probably fell for him. He probably fell for her.

Well, perfect. Killing two birds with one stone! Blackmail the dad and thus rule Port Royal, blackmail the daughter and finally get my hands on that imp Jack, while obtaining his valubles and taking control of the 7 seas.
hahaha sorry to ramble, the point of my theory is that Beckett probably knew there was some sort of connection between Jack and Elizabeth (and he probably assumed it was way more than it actually was at that point) and therefore hoped to "SAVE" her from the marriage he assumed her father had conned her into, so that she would run after Jack for Beckett and get him the compass because Beckett had done her such a huge favor by saving her from her "arranged" marriage so she could maybe be with Jack. Does that make sense? I know its a stretch. LOL.

yes you are that makes sense..as for the part where willo asked WHY did becket just jump in like that? did he nor know about the compass or did he not have a way of getting it. IMO(and this is just an opinion ladies) jack had the compass when he was working for EITC cause as we read in wikipedia he did a series of "odd jobs" for cutler becket how can you do ODD jobs without being as ODD as jack and having something as ODD as his compass? so I say in that point becket who already knew jack pretty well also knew about the compass but didn't know/didn't believe in the chest. when he found out about the chest he knew there was only one thing that could lead him to it..jack's compass and he knew that if he had jack in his command he could get it easily...jack WAS famouse for doing unusual tasks. anyways I think he didn't have the POWER to do it before since he JUST became lord. we can tell by this comversation. governer swann says :"cutler BECKET?" and becket says "it's lord now" which means he became lord recently. he thought :"well how will I get jack and the compass? I have to find a way of getting to him...WHAT'S THIS? jack sparrow was captured about a year ago and was going to be hung but the governer's daughter and a blacksmith helped him? is that it? well there must be something more between lizzie and jack eh? I can use the girl against the blacksmith AND the captain." so he blamed it all on liz and will to get will to go seacrch for jack and to get jack to give in to his demands.

So what your saying is that Beckett stopped the wedding because he knew that Liz and Jack fell in love and therefore knew that Liz would go after Jack and Find the compass which Beckett wants and reunite herself with Jack<--fate intervened?
I have an idea. In the movie, Gibbs says how the Isla de Muerta was being claimed by the sea, which means Jack and the Black Pearl must have gone back to the island. Since the cave was being flooded, Jack the cursed monkey hopped aboard the Black Pearl.
I also thought of something else. Do you think the third movie will open with a flashback of Jack's past with the East India Co. and becoming a pirate? The first movie began with a flashback. I think it would be a cool thing to see in the final movie. I know the leaked script didn't have it, but maybe they added it?
I think this is a possibility, and it sounds good to me!
there were several important scenes deliberatly left out of the leaked script, including a scene between Liz and Jack. So perhaps that scene was also left out.
oooo really what was that scene about between jack and liz that they left out of the leaked script???? and why did they leave it out????- also the idea of the third movie starting with a flashback sounds like a really good idea!!!! and btw., thanks everybody for a warm welcome!!!!!!

I think Kate really shed some light on the subject, as did everyone else. It's just such a strange sequence of events. It's almost as if everyone just fast forwarded to the time we see and nothing could realistically happen in between.
more or less. not that i actually think anyone was in love with anyone else at that point--- but Beckett, knowing Jack and his way with women, probably assumed that something went down between them.
He knows he's got a good decent man- WIll- who's really in love with this girl.
He knows he has this firebrand girl who may be interested in seeing Jack again... who may even be thankful to have her wedding interrupted...
So he puts two and two together and there's his plan. which explains why he sends his henchman to tortuga to spy on liz, but not kidnap her or anything. he clearly let her escape on purpose.
okso i jst read wikipedia and it said that there were rumors that barbossa will die saving jacks life, or thats wut johnny depp said i cant remember.... jst go to wikipedia and type pirates of the caribbean: at worlds end.... actually u guys probably already know this but idk..
