I don't believe Tia is manipulating anyone. She is quite speaking out the truth about what the characters really want. She knows their true heart desires. She clearly knows that Liz really wants to go and rescue Jack, and that Will wants to rescue Jack as well, but for his own selfish reasons.

Tia is saying what will motivate the others in the room the most to fetch Jack back. I don't think she wants to save Jack for any sentimental reasons. She NEEDS him to be back, and she needs a crew to get her to where he is.

That's why I've always found her compass so darn suspicious. Tia puts me on edge, simply because there are a lot of layers to her.

I dont think Tia manipulates. She just simply sees whats in you. She sees your destiny but I dont think she controls it.

I'll say^^

laughing out loud

but seriosuly her character can see all of the characters true hearts and true desires apparently..according to Naomi Harris anyway

thing is Surreal...she actually knew he was going to die long before he even went to see her..Barbossa was in the cabin(corpse) she had the means to bring him back

..meaning she could have stopped Jack's death by telling him the moent he stepped in the door but she didnt..she's letting things play out naturally in DMC

I'm sure she has her reasons as well. But what I'm saying is that everyone had their reasons to get him back. Will wants him back for the Pearl, Liz wants to rescue him because of, who the hell knows? she is a disturb child. But my take is that she wants Jack back in her life. And Tia wants him back because he owes her a debt. Anyways IMO if they didn't have any reason to go and rescue him, they could have said no to Tia. No matter how hard she was trying to manipulate them.

Exactly. She sees but doesnt controls it. Shes very powerful, she could've seen Jacks death. She could've told them not to go to the flying dutchman. She knew that Will will meet his father, that was something that Will had to square with because of his pirate blood.

She saw many many things, but she let things happen normally as it should be. Their destiny is in control by the characters, not Tia.

and if the writers who invented the compass don't agree on where it points (which they have said they dont) then i say we let the compass die. LOL. it makes my head spin.

Oh Tia. Think her teeth will clean up once she goes goddess again?

I'm not debating about what is in their hearts. I'm saying that Tia is manipulating the situation. If she did nothing to save Jack, then it could be that she is simply manipulating the situation again. It's quite possible that Jack HAD to die in order for what she wants or needs to occur.

I think she is, and has been, manipulating the characters so that in the end, they get her what she wants.

Yes you control your own destiny, I couldn't agree more. Tia doesn't have the ability to control their destiny, that would be so far fetched.
Ok Surreal what do you have to say about that? big grin

I think Tia's going to manipulate more in movie 3..I dunno if she's manipulating in 2, but in 3 she's with them on their voyage and throughout much of the movie.

If she's had to get Jack back from the dead because she needs him then wouldnt have even let him die in the first place cuz she knew he was going to. So I dont think she' making Liz feel what she feels or Jack feel what he feels ot Will..she's letting that happen..(not arguing that..just guessing)

She probably needs t get to Singapore and have them with her for some reason.

Its all very confusing lol

If she sees Jack's death and knows about Will's destiny, do you think that by stating to Will that he has a destiny and by NOT telling Jack that she isn't manipulating the situation and the people?

yesh I supose lol..

she sees all

she must need to be in singapore for one reason or another.

but in the ancient greek tragedies/stories(calypso in one of them)..it is the mortal's own actions that causes their destiny..not the gods themselves

If that were true in this movie, then there would be no need to tell Will that he has destiny, would there? wink To steal from Gibbs (another wonderful character!), "Mark my words"...that woman is manipulating everyone to get what she wants.

he already has the destiny...thats why she said it

SHe didnt make them want to see Davy Jones..she let them discuss it themselves..she knew that the outcome would be them wanting to go find the dutchman and so Will would bump into his father and then make that promise.

No one can control a persons destiny..our destiny is what we ourselves make of it. Our choices are the very things that decide our fate.

The oracle just tells you about what it will be...often when people find out about their fate and what their end will be..that is the very reason their fate ends up the way it does. It happens because they try to avoid it..laughing out loud their curiosity to know their own destiny was their downfall..of course the oracle knew they were going to ask anyway and so they didnt change the destiny it still played out as it would have

The difference here between Calypso and an oracle is that Calypso is wanting something from the others, so she has a vested interest to make certain that things follow a certain path.

It's just a theory of mine. I have no clue if Tia is actually manipulating the others, but I think that she is.

she cant make things follow a certain path..a persons destiny is their own doing.

she's just tagging along IMO and knows that by the end of it something will happen to her advantage...if she can see into the future and she fails then why even bother..her ending will hppen for her no doubt about that.

this is just my opinion too..I dont have a clue..yet anyway

Hubris. Isn't that the one for pride? Perhaps she can see into people's destinies, but as you say, she can't control the people...hence the need to manipulate them.

If someone does something she's not expecting, then her plans will be for nothing.

Oooh, maybe Tia is going to be the tragic Greek figure!!!
